During the events of Power Rangers Dino Super Charge episode 8, "Riches and Rags".
Ivan had mistaken an antique suit for his training dummy, and he severely damaged it in a training session. It made the owner of the suit livid, and he has demanded compensation.
Otherwise, he would take the museum and sell it off.
Luckily, Ivan had a plan to save the museum. He had left some gold with the bank back in his days as a knight.
Now, how he acquired the gold was an interesting story to tell.
***break***
Ivan dashed through the forest under cover of night. He approached a little small clearing and spotted the markings of the Zandarian Rangers in chalk on a pine tree. He rapped the bark four times.
Twelve rangers in green hoods stepped out from the bushes. The leader approached Ivan with a tiny candle. It was Marquis Rex.
Under that tiny candlestick glow, Ivan could see Marquis Rex's face. He immediately blew out the candle and darkness enveloped all of them.
Without warning, they yanked Ivan into a deep ditch and to their meeting place.
It was pitch black. Ivan could not even see the back of his hand. The Marquis had insisted that they will not light a fire or a candle for fear of being spotted by the enemy.
The Marquis wasted no time with pleasantries. He wanted his intelligence reports immediately.
"Ivan, what's the enemy's strength?"
"Marquis, they outnumber us at least sixty to one."
"I have one rule when we are on missions. Call me Rex. boy."
Every ranger on his team called him by his first name. On the first day, Ivan joined the rangers; Marquis Rex immediately told him to call him Rex and drummed it into him.
As Ivan recounted what he saw, he heard the dragging of a stick against sand and the setting down of stones. Ivan was impressed. Rex and his rangers were discussing the plans to attack the camp in complete darkness.
Rex proposed that they attack the Venetian directly. It made sense; the Venetian was the leader of the invading army. However, Bijela, his right-hand man, disagreed. Six soldiers guarded the Venetian at any given time. Any attempt to take him down would fail.
Zelena suggested that they ought to poison the food supplies of the enemy. Crvena argued that they ought to burn the supplies instead.
In the midst of the debate, Ivan was silent. It was not his place to speak. Moreover, he did not know what to say. Every single ranger had at least fought for as many years as Ivan had been alive.
Suddenly, Rex hissed.
Everyone fell silent. The rangers knew what it meant. Someone or something is nearby.
Ivan immediately pricked up his ears. There was no mistaking it.
There was a growling sound. A sound like an animal. But it was not of a dumb brute. It was something intelligent.
Rex lit a torch, casting a harsh light all around the ditch.
There was a massive monster with a terrible face like a lion in front of them.
The monster spoke, "Hand the Energem over to me now."
Rex notched an arrow into his bow, and he said, "Monster, you are surrounded by the rangers of Zandar. You will surrender or forfeit your life. This is your first and last warning. Do not take another step forward."
The monster snorted and took a step forward. Bijela yelled and charged with his spear. He sent a thrust towards the monster's chest.
The spear snapped in half. Bijela's eyes widened, and he immediately beat a hasty retreat.
The monster laughed, "Your toys can barely scratch me. You may be rangers, but you are hardly a Power Ranger."
"Who are you?"
"I am Fury. You will beg for mercy after I tear you into pieces."
Ivan immediately shot back sarcastically, "How are we going to do that if you tear us into pieces?"
Rex whistled and made a hand-sign to scatter. He extinguished the torch immediately, plunging the ditch into darkness once more.
Everyone immediately scattered to the four winds. Fury was an enemy that they cannot defeat. They must retreat and regroup.
Ivan ran for his life, darting from one tree to another in rapid succession.
The sound of heavy footfalls followed him. Ivan realised that the monster was pursuing him. He redoubled his efforts and ran so hard until he felt that his lungs would give out from the strain.
Ivan quickly slid to a small thicket and crawled into it. He hoped that Fury wouldn't be able to find him.
His hopes were quickly dashed.
"I can smell traces of the Energem on you. You can run, but you cannot hide."
Suddenly, a monstrous hand punctured the thicket and grabbed Ivan by his tunic. Ivan was whisked out of the thicket, and he found himself face-to-face with two glowing red eyes.
Fury lifted him up with ease. Ivan struggled with all his might but he could not escape Fury's grip.
"The Energem! Where is it?"
Ivan drew his sword and yelled. With one swift motion, he swung his sword at Fury's neck with all his strength.
Fury blocked the blade using his finger. The sight of it terrified Ivan. This kind of power was clearly out of this world. What enemy could block a sword with just a finger?
Fury was an impossible enemy to defeat.
All of a sudden, he heard a yell. Rex jumped out of his hiding place and rammed the monster. Irritated, Fury dropped Ivan and backhanded Rex into the dirt.
Rex shouted. "Run Ivan, run! It's coming after you."
Ivan understood what he must do. He ran.
The monster cursed himself and chased after Ivan.
Ivan had a brilliant idea. He changed course and ran straight to the camp of the Venetian while the monster pursued him. When he spotted the flaming torches of the encampment, he shouted, "To arms! To arms! Fire and Foes! Fire and Foes!"
The guards were perplexed when they saw Ivan running to them, but their faces turned white when they saw what was pursuing him. They cried out, "What in God's name is that? A demon?"
Ivan ducked past them. Fury tried to follow, but two guards stepped forward to block him. Fury swatted the guards aside like they were flies.
Another guard ran and roused the camp awake. Within minutes, one hundred men-at-arms surrounded Fury. Among their numbers were the mercenaries from Thermopylae and new reinforcements from the Livonian Brotherhood of the Sword.
However, no one dared to strike first. The soldiers had never seen such a terrible creature before in their lives. To them, it must have seemed like fighting against a demon. Fury had stopped moving and he was intently sniffing the air.
During the confusion, Ivan hid behind a wagon filled with barrels of beer. He knew that Fury was trying to track him down based on the scent of an Energem. From there, he saw the Venetian approach Fury. He took one look at Fury and laughed.
"Have you lost your nerve, men from Thermopylae? Among our numbers, there are the Brothers of the Sword. Do you have so little faith that you fear a mere demon spawn?"
Fury growled and then let out a maniacal laugh.
"Foolish human. You should be very afraid. Let me show you the meaning of despair."
The Venetian snarled, "Demonspawn. The gates of hell have not prevailed against me, and you too will fall to my sword."
The Venetian swung his sword at Fury. Fury grabbed the blade in mid slash with his bare hands. Fury was not even cut by the attack.
There was a look of panic in the Venetian's eyes.
Suddenly, Fury sniffed the air.
"Fascinating. I smell the Energem on you too."
The Venetian let go of his sword and shouted, "Destroy it! Destroy it!"
With a cry, all one hundred men charged at Fury with their spears.
