Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "Mavis" from Season 3. Enjoy and comment.

Mavis is a diesel engine who works at the quarry shunting freight cars.

She has six small wheels hidden by side-plates, just like Toby.

Mavis is young and full of her own ideas.

She likes to rearrange things, especially Toby's freight cars.

This makes Toby cross.

"Freight cars should be where you want them!" grumbled Toby.

"Fiddlesticks!" said Mavis as she crossly went away.

Soon, Toby had lost patience.

"I'm not wasting time finding my freight cars! Take them yourself!"

Mavis was pleased. Taking freight cars made her feel important.

At the station, Diesel oiled up to her.

"Toby's a old fuss-pot!" grumbled Mavis.

Diesel knew that there was trouble and was delighted.

"Toby says only steamies can handle freight cars."

"How stupid!" said Diesel. "Anything that a steamie can do, can be done with ease by a diesel."

Diesel knew nothing about freight cars, but Mavis didn't realize this.

Toby's line crosses the main-road behind the station, and for a short while follows a farm.

Snowy weather makes the track very slippery.

Toby stopped before reaching the lane.

His fireman stopped the traffic with his red flag, and when it was safe, Toby set off again.

Even with the freight cars, Toby has no trouble with the slippery track.

Later, Toby warned Mavis about the slippery track and told Mavis what to do.

"I can manage myself, thank you!" shouted Mavis. "I;m not a old fuss-pot like you!"

The freight cars were tired of being pushed around by Mavis.

"It's slippery, it's slippery!" whispered the freight cars. "Let's push her around instead! On, on!"

Mavis took no notice.

Instead, she carefully brought the freight cars down the lane, and stopped at the level crossing.

All the traffic stopped.

However, Mavis had stopped in the wrong place.

Instead of taking Toby's advice, the freight cars had the chance they wanted.

"Hold back, hold back!" they cried.

"BE QUIET!" ordered Mavis.

The cars laughed and laughed, while Mavis spun her wheels uncontrollably.

Workmen sanded the rails and tried to dig up the frozen snow, but it was no use.

Everyone was not impressed.

"BE QUIET!" snapped Mavis.

Toby was in the yard when he heard the news.

"I warned her!" he fumed.

"She's only young." said his driver.

"She can manage her cars herself!" interrupted Toby.

"Their your cars really! Mavis is supposed to stay at the quarry. If Sir Topham Hatt find out, he'll be crosser than ever!"

Toby and his driver agreed to help Mavis out.

When Toby arrived, everyone was speaking about Mavis, and how bad of a railway it was.

"Having trouble Mavis?" called out Toby. "I am surprised!"

"Fusspot!" snapped Mavis.

With much puff, Toby managed to pull Mavis and the freight cars back to safety.

"Goodbye!" said Toby. "Hopefully you can manage yourself now!"

Mavis didn't answer. She took the cars to the sheds, and went back to the quarry as fast as she could.
