Kamichu! Savior of Onomichi!

This is my first attempt at writing a fanfiction so I hope it turns out well, if not sorry. Our tale starts the day Yurie and her friends all graduate middle school, a little over a year after the anime ended (I'm basing my story off that). All rights to the show and cast to the creators, I don't own any of it, this story however is my creation.

Yurie Hitatsubashi, Matsuri Saegusa, Mitsue Shijo, and Kenji Ninomea were all gathered with the rest of their year in the school auditorium.

The principal of the middle school was congratulating all the seniors for completing their middle school education and wishing them luck in high school and their future endeavors.

"Congratulations on finishing your final year here with us, it certainly has been an interesting three years but you all have lots of new adventures waiting for you in high school. I have every confidence you all will go on to become outstanding individuals. Be sure to watch the stars tonight, I hear there is going to be a meteor shower. Hopefully it will be clear so we can all have a good show." The principal said as he ended his speech, sending a subtle look towards Yurie. She just smiled shyly back and lightly laughed, catching what he was hinting. He wanted Yurie to make the sky clear, which as a God she could.

Yurie had learned a lot since she first found out she became a God overnight, she still wasn't sure why it had happened. She doesn't pass out nearly as often after using her divine powers now.

Matsuri was extra excited, she already had ideas how she could use this to draw people to the shrine and boost Yashima's and Yurie's popularity as their head priestess.

Mitsue took one look at Matsuri and all the happiness from graduating drained. She knew she was thinking of making this into another shrine event, which would mean Yashima would insist on putting on another guitar solo, possessing her body again. She hates it when he does this, no matter how many times she tells him she doesn't want to help he just can't help himself.

Celestial events always got his creative juices going, helping him to draw even better Calligraphy. He was also vaguely aware of the romantic potential of watching a meteor shower with his girlfriend Yurie.

Tama and Bin-chan, aka the poverty God, were watching from the roof through one of the windows. Bin had a bad feeling something was going to go wrong. Tama was trying to reassure him.

After the assembly everyone regrouped at Raifuku Shrine to talk about that night's plans. Matsuri barely waited till everyone was in the door before informing them they were going to hold a shoot star festival that night do to the expected meteor shower. Ino, Shika, and Chou picked that to rocket in with multiple wishes.

"Wow," Chou said, "We've got a lot of the same wish, 'Please let tonight be clear so we can see the meteor shower'. Looks like everyone is really excited about tonight."

Shika responded, "We've got a lot of work of people counting on us, I hope we don't let them down."

Ino smacked Shika across the back of his head. "Of course, were not going to let them down, Yurie is amazing and this is a simple wish. Especially because weather wishes are Yurie's specialty, their always extra strong." Ino said.

Yurie blushed, remembering the typhoon that she had summoned by accident the day after she got her powers. She had been trying to tell Kenji how she felt but didn't have the courage. Matsuri reminded her of a school legend, if you confess your love while a strong wind blows then the one you love will accept your feelings. So, she called up a 'strong wind' with all her might.

Yashima heard Matsuri mention the meteor shower and got a bad feeling. He went to check his monthly forecast for the event. Something didn't feel right.

Yurie asked Ino-Shika-Chou how to go about granting the wish without overpowering the blessing. They suggested several powerful talismans placed around town to blow away the clouds.

Yurie asked Kenji for help, she had improved dramatically in her calligraphy with the help of Kenji but still had a good way to go. He was of course happy to help. Once he made about 20 wind talismans Yurie blessed them and set off to distribute them around the town perimeter.

By the time Yurie was done it was getting late but it appeared to be working. The talismans were making a gentle wind that was blowing the clouds away from town focused in the center of the circle. Ino-Shika-Chou arrived where she was and said that should be enough, the wishes had been marked as complete.

She stopped by her home to let her parents, Akene and Kenkichi, and little brother Shoukichi know what was going on and that she would be at the shrine late tonight. They wished her well and asked her to try to not be out too late, she was still young after all.

By the time she returned to the shrine lots of people and gods were already starting to arrive for the festival. Everyone had really worked hard putting things together and spreading the work while Yurie was taking care of her God duties. Lots of games and food stands were set up and people were having a great time. Some of the kids were already gathering around the stage for 'Mitsue's Guitar show' as they had come to expect it at every Raifuku Shrine festival.

After about two hours of festivities the first shoot star was spotted. All activity slowed as everyone looked towards the heavens on this beautiful clear night, thanks to Yurie and the wind spirits. The torches were dimmed for a better view and everyone was in wonder at the beauty of the event.

As Yurie and Kenji were watching the shooting stars, Yurie got a very disturbing feeling. Ino-Shika-Chou appeared and told Yurie and Yashima there was an emergency meeting of the Gods Association that was called and they had to attend. Yurie let Kenji know and he asked to come with her. She asked Yashima and he told her it was frowned upon but doable. She needed to craft him a talisman of Bonding, allowing him to follow her into the divine realm where the Gods congregated.

Yashima helped Yurie with the calligraphy and soon it was completed, her finest talisman yet. Yurie pinned it to Kenji and there was a bright glow that surrounded them, Yurie's hair lengthened to the ground as the talisman transferred a bit of her divine power to Kenji causing his eyes to glow with the same divine power as Yurie's hair.

Yashima looked on, amazed and worried. That was not how that talisman usually worked and he had no idea of the consequences.

'I'll have to inform the Chairmen while were there' thought Yashima, hoping nothing was wrong.

So it was that Yurie, Kenji, and Yashima followed Ino-Shika-Chou to the gateway into the divine realm. Once they got there Yashima went first, then Kenji attempted to cross but couldn't. Then Yurie grabbed his hand and they both found themselves pulled through the gateway. Yashima was waiting for them on the other side.

Once Ino-Shika-Chou made it through they guided the three to the docs where the Gods Association convention vessel awaited them. The God in charge of greeting arrivals was shocked to see a human there, but he could see the Bonding Talisman was connected to Yurie. The God asked for his name so he could be accounted for on the list. He would bring this to the attention of the Chairman.

They all found seats near the back but well within hearing of the front. The Chairman walked up with a worried expression on his face, stroking his beard. "We've got a serious problem to deal with. The meteor shower currently above the town of Onomichi has once again marked a time of great danger." The Chairman said to those assembled.

"Once an Era, a massive asteroid comes within striking distance of our planet. It always misses but, in its wake, pulls meteors with it that cause devastation, the force of its passing causes storms of immense size and ferocity, this time I fear the damage will be far worse. In the past, there were never so many humans populating close to a threatened area. We have always been able to protect those that were not able to find shelter with warding talismans, but now there a far too many to protect them all."

Everyone looked around worriedly, especially the residents of Onomichi. Yashima was distraught, Matsuri and Miko were in grave danger. Yurie and Kenji were worried about their home and families. Kenji pulled Yurie into a hug, he could feel her trembling. Yurie felt there must be something they could do.

She spoke up. "Chairman, isn't there anything we can do. We can't just let all those people get hurt. Has there ever been anything like this to happen before?" Yurie asked with worry in her voice.

The Chairman looked over with pity in eyes toward Yurie, this would be the hardest on her. Then he noticed Kenji holding her, his eyes still glowing with divine power. What on earth is a human doing in the divine realm. Is it possible he Bonded with Yurie. That thought triggered a memory in the ancient Gods mind.

When the Chairman was young, several Era's ago, there was another passing of the great asteroid. There a young Goddess who had fallen in love with a human whose family lived in a threatened area. The Goddess begged the human man leave the area until the danger passed but the man said he couldn't abandon his elderly parents. The man lived in a densely populated little village far from any other village or caves.

The Goddess couldn't bear to watch her human love be and those he cherished be killed. She was gifted at protection magic but even she could not hope to save them all by herself. She made a deal with the man, bind his soul to hers and she would give everything she had to protect his town. The man did not hesitate, the trade was well worth the safety of all those he loved. The Goddess Bound their souls together, in the process giving a bit of her divine power to him so that they may remain together for all time. The man's eyes upon receiving her divine power radiated with her divine essence.

The Goddess used all her divine power to protect the village of her Bound lover, is was never said how but she managed to protect the entire village. But at a terrible price, she used up all her power and drifted into a deep slumber. She disappeared and as she vanished so did her lover. Nobody ever saw them again.

The Chairman was pulled out of his memory by the sounds of those assembled before him. They were scared and needed guidance, it was his job to guide them to the best that he could. He looked back towards Yurie and Kenji. 'Could it be?' he wondered. He walked over to stand before them.

"Yurie, how is your boyfriend comes to be here in the divine realm? It should not have been possible to get him past the gateway." The Chairman stated, getting a closer look at the talisman on the Kenji's shirt.

Yurie was worried, she didn't know what to tell him. She figured the best way was to tell truth, so she said Kenji asked to come with me to the meeting when I looked scared. She said how she asked Yashima and he said it might be possible with the talisman of Bonding. He helped me write it and I pinned it to Kenji. "There was this bright light, my hair grew and his eyes lit up the same color as my hair when I use my divine power in excess. After that we came immediately to the gateway. It wouldn't let him through, but then I held hand and the gateway dragged us both through together." Yurie was scared how the Chairman would react, she hadn't meant to break any rules.

The chairman was most concerned. He turned to Yashima, who looked worried, and asked, "Is the true Yashima?"

"Yes sir, I've never seen anything like it in all my years." Yashima Responded.

"How did you know the ancient talisman of Bonding?" The Chairman asked.

"It was in one of the oldest texts in the Raifuku Shrine, I don't even remember when it was added or where it has gone. One of the former priest of the shrine I call home was an enthusiast when it came to old texts. He searched through our old collection of and found one on old talismans from forgotten Eras. I have a tendency to read over people's shoulders when they're reading something interesting. That talisman was among the many transcribed in the text. I hadn't even thought about it in years until Yurie asked for something that would allow Kenji to follow." Yashima said, even more worried than before.

'Interesting, could it be Onomichi was the village that was spared all those years ago.' The Chairman thought to himself.

"Those eyes of Kenji's reminded me of a similar situation many years ago, perhaps therein lies the key to our problem. A Goddess gifted in protective magics fell in love with a human in a threatened village. She Bound herself to man, gifting him part of her divine essence, and somehow managed to defend the village until the threat passed. There may be more humans now but perhaps if we all blessed protective talismans placed around the town we may be able to protect the residents." The Chairman said, which made several of those close by look upon him with hope.

"Perhaps with enough protective talismans being blessed we can save this town and its people. Who would be willing to bless these talismans?" The Chairman asked, thinking 'this might actually work.'

Every God in attendance raised their hands in support, this was their home and they would do whatever it took to protect it. Yurie turned to Kenji and asked, "Kenji, will you help us write up enough talismans to protect Onomichi?"

Kenji blinked, 'this was incredible' he thought. The Gods are asking for my help to save the town. He did a quick count of how many he would need. It was staggering, there were so many Gods requesting one.

Kenji asked the Chairman, "How long do we have before the danger arrives?" 'This might be a bit tough, hopefully I can get enough in time but I doubt I can make one for every God here if I don't have much time.

The Chairman responded, "The meteor show always comes 18 hours before the danger is at its worst. 6 hours before the asteroid arrives meteors will start to hit the town. The meteor strikes will increase the closer the asteroid gets."

"So, I need to make 400 Talismans of Protection in less than 12 hours, I don't suppose there is a God of Calligraphy or Talismans here somewhere is there?" Kenji asked.

"I am sorry, those two have been all but forgotten by the humans. They haven't been seen in nearly 200 years. As humans forget about us we lose our power, we never truly vanish but we do drift off to sleep until we are needed again. I believe you can do this Kenji, we need you." The Chairman said, all eyes on were on Kenji.

"Well, I had better get to work. I need the blank talismans and plenty of ink, I will get them done as soon as I can. Please work on where to place them." Kenji said, going to work on the massive order of talismans.

"We should attempt to evacuate people just in case this doesn't work. Since I have a physical body I will let them know what is coming." Yurie said, feeling the need to do something.

(KSO)

Yurie left the meeting and returned to her home to let her parents know what was happening. Needless to say, they were very concerned. They sat down to a late dinner and planned the best way to let everyone know and what to do after. It was decided another call to the Prime Minister was in order, they would need help evacuating as many as possible and he had racked up a few more favors since the Yamato wish.

Two hours later the army showed up in response to her request for assistance. Yurie was still worried, but at least could start evacuating the residents in the town. The meteor shower was still going strong but no damage had been reported yet. Yurie knew though that they were running out of time. If the Chairman was right, which she didn't doubt, by dawn things would be getting much more dangerous.

Two hours after the military arrived Kenji showed up with the talismans. They got to work placing them around the perimeter of the town, they had half while another group was working on distributing talismans on the other side of the river. Setting up the protective circle took the remainder of the night.

It was just after dawn when the first meteor hit town. The military had only been able to evacuate roughly half the town do to the darkness of night and only having one ferry boat. When the first meteor hit everyone was ordered to find shelter, it was deemed too dangerous to move.

Once the meteors started hitting the Gods started to bless the talismans that were scattered strategically around and in town. They were waiting till then so that they could conserve as much energy as possible, it was still going to be another 6 hours until the worst would hit.

With the Gods blessing the talismans many meteors were diverted away from town, but with each meteor diverted the Gods felt the drain from the power the talismans needed to keep working. Despite their best efforts several dozen still got through and hit the town, though half those landed in the river given the middle of the protected area was the weakest. Fortunately, all the remaining towns people managed to get to shelter; mainly schools, churches, shrines, and several buildings close to the edge near the talismans.

The closer the asteroid came; the more meteors fell. Onomichi was getting a nice new boundary wall, but the Gods were getting tired. The entire time something was nagging at Yurie, a feeling that something was going to go wrong. Five and a half hours after the meteors started hitting, they stopped.

Yurie turned to Kenji, who had never left her side since the strikes began, and asked, "Do you think it's over?"

Just then a powerful force could be felt by those blessing the talismans. The asteroid was getting close to the planet and its gravity was pushing on Onomichi, the already tired Gods were brought to their knees. The wind picked up, storm clouds broke and crashed sending loud booms of thunder. Through it all the protective field generated by the talismans held, though those near one would see the talismans beginning to wear.

All looked lost, then Yurie's divine power flared and she hurt a female voice. The voice said, 'I can tell you what to do, but if will not be easy.'

"Who are you, what do I need to do?" Yurie asked the mysterious voice.

'I am one has repelled this force before, to defend this very land where the man I loved once lived.' The voice said in a pained voice. 'The barrier you have made is holding the majority of it at bay but will not last till the asteroid passes, the Gods are too exhausted. You can still save this town and those who remain though.

'You will need to reach the center of the barrier and focus all your power towards protecting this town. This will require everything you have left though, I can't promise what will happen after.'

Yurie looked around her. Those closest to her refused to leave, they were all gathered at Raifuku Shrine. They all looked terrified. She could see that several of the other Gods had already feinted attempting to keep the protective field up, the talisman before her was blackened from wear. She looked towards her family, worried she might fail, or if she'd ever see them again if she did as the voice advised.

She saw Tama sprawled out nearby, the pressure to much for her but still breathing. She couldn't fail, she couldn't let them die. Yurie looked once more into Kenji's eyes, still glowing with her power from the talisman he wore, kissed him and called for an air spirit to take her to the center.

They all called out after her, while Kenji was just stunned by what had just happened, but it was too late. She was too far away for her to hear them. At that moment Kenji also heard a voice in his head. 'There she goes again, she just can't help herself,' the voice said.

'What is going on, where is she going and who is talking in my head?" Kenji asked in his head. 'I am the spirit of the bound to her soul, reborn with you so that I would be with her again when the time came. She's about to sacrifice herself again to save this town.' The spirit replied with a melancholy voice. "What?!" shouted Kenji in worry.

'She was once a Goddess gifted with protections, I often called upon her for my house and family. In time we fell in love, then the great danger came just as it is here now. She begged me to leave the village but I couldn't abandon my elderly parents and everyone else, there was nowhere for them to hide. She made me a deal, become bound to her so that she could be one with those she wished to protect in exchange she would defend the village. It took everything she had. As she was fading I held onto her, I didn't want to let her go. I became one with her and faded along with her. Every Era we are reborn to face the great danger, should it ever return to this land.'

As the spirit finished explaining what was happening to Kenji, Yurie arrived at the center. She concentrated all her hopes and desires to protect those she loved and focused towards the sky. Collecting all the divine power she still had, with the guidance of the old Goddess, spoke the word that would release her power and bend reality, "KAMICHU!"

Once more her hair began to glow and grow, draining off the excess power that would harm her. The power she was channeling would have been too much for any mortal body otherwise. As she channeled the power towards the heavens to counteract the force of the asteroid, the pressure on the protective field lessened. However, the wait she took away from the field was now putting more drain on her.

The spirit of the Goddess's lover spoke to Kenji once more; 'She is strong, but it will not be enough on its own. She has spent too much energy powering the protective field. Just like before, it will drain every ounce of divine power from her and she will fall. There is a way however for you to save her, an action I couldn't do. Call on the air spirits to carry you to her and add the power she loaned you to her own.' Kenji didn't hesitate, he called for the air spirits to bring him to Yurie.

"Kenji, what are you doing here?" Yurie asked with exhaustion. It was taking everything she had to keep the force of the asteroid at bay.

"I can't let you do this alone, it is too much. I don't want to lose you. Just like you, a spirit from the past is speaking to me, the spirit of love of the old Goddess within you. He says this will kill you, just like it killed her. There is a way to save you both though. I need to return the power you shared with me."

"How?" she called out, she could barely hear him. The spirit of the old Goddess answered her, what she said made Yurie blush scarlet.

'You need to kiss him and take back the power. The transfer will bind the two of you together in a Holy Union, tied together for all time. Without that binding he will fall when you take back the power, no longer able to interact with the those of the divine such as the air spirit that lifts him.'

"Kenji, are you sure, there is no going back once I do this. You will be bound to me for all time, our souls in union." Yurie asked, scared of what his response would be.

Kenji looked surprised for just a moment before saying, "I've never been surer about anything. I can't lose you and I want to be with you for all time. I love you Yurie"

"I love you too, Kenji," Yurie responded. Without another moments hesitancy Yurie kissed Kenji, and they embraced mid-air. As they souls became one, divine power surged through and around them. Yurie's hair grew to a length greater than ever before, her glowing hair didn't just glow, turned golden with the power flowing through it. All pressure from the asteroid was dispersed. The power released in their union pushed the asteroid and the meteors still trailing it away from the planet, the danger passed.

As the force of their union receded they began to lose altitude, both exhausted and nearly drained of powered. The air spirits quickly carried them back to Raifuku Shrine, Yurie's golden hair trailing behind. They both collapsed onto each other as they landed, unable to stand. Their family and friends ran towards them.

Suddenly there was a flash as the two spirits who resided alongside Yurie and Kenji appeared before them, between them and their loved ones, bathed in golden divine light.

"Thank you for doing what I could not Kenji, now we are truly together." The man said, true happiness practically radiating off him. "Thank you both with all my heart."

"Yurie, you did wonderfully. I couldn't be more happy or proud. You truly are worth of the power I be gifted you with by sharing your body. Do not worry, the power is and always will be yours to do with as you wish. With the danger passed we will return to our slumber. Before we go, one final gift for doing what we could not. Plant the hair that grew around the outskirts of town, it will provide a barrier to prevent disaster from nature striking your town. The love and desire to protect those dear to you was infused into the hair."

With that the two spirits began fade away. As they did so however Yurie and Kenji both collapsed, fatigue overtaking them. Everyone ran towards them concerned. They tried to wake the couple but couldn't.

"Do not fear, they merely need to rest, as always when Yurie uses the too much power at once. They will wake when they are ready but keep them together. They are now bound to each other, now and forever by Holy Union." The spirit of the Goddess said to ease they worries. Kenkichi, her father, didn't look happy.

The spirit of the Goddess saw this and scowled, before saying "Know this Kenkichi, if they had not accepted each other and joined then your daughter would have surely perished, just as I did. The strain of holding off the asteroid, even with the other Gods powering protective talismans, would have killed her. As she is she will live a long and happy life next to the man she loves and is loved by. What more could a parent wish for?"

Kenkichi heard this and looked down in shame. He held his daughter close and felt relieved she would be save and happy.

Then the spirits vanished, returned to their resting place until they were needed once more. "Come on, let's get to work. They will be out for a while, remember when Yurie over exerted herself granting wishes after she won student council president. She was out for two weeks that time and she did a lot more this time; she forced away an asteroid, that had to take a lot of energy." Matsuri said as she looked at her best friend.

They did as they were instructed by the Goddess, they cut the blessed golden hair and buried it around both sides of the town. After the hair was cut Yurie and Kenji were moved to a back room in the Shrine, where they would be safe until they work.

Two months later Kenji woke up to find himself lying next to Yurie in the back of the Shrine. It took him a moment to remember what happened. He looked over to Yurie, concerned that she hadn't woken up yet. Kenji shook Yurie's shoulder to try to wake her, she didn't respond. He was about to panic when she rolled over and sleepily said, "Five more minutes mom." Kenji was confused for a moment, then sighed with a smirk. It seems she still needed more time.

It was then that Kenji noticed Yashima and Tama, they were both happy to see him awake. Tama had never left their sides. Yashima checked in frequently. Kenji looked down but could not find the talisman he had been wearing, he wondered how he could still see Yashima.

Yashima noticed his confusion and lightly chuckled. "Welcome back Kenji, I bet your wondering how you can see me, right?"

Kenji nodded, he didn't know how this was possible.

"When you joined with Yurie in Holy Union, binding your souls together, some of her power became yours. Welcome to Godhood, on a limited basis of course." Yashima said jokingly.

"Everything's fine," Tama said. "All the Gods who fainted from exhaustion recovered and none of the humans died. The damage from the meteors that got through has been repaired and the blessed hair has been buried around the town. The field of protection the hair provides even seems to dampen Bin-chan's powers. He was worried with Yurie out cold for so long the bindings would loosen and his powers would go out of control again."

"Everyone has been worried about you two, your and her parents visit every day and her friends stop in every chance they get." Yashima said.

"Matsuri and Miko checked on you both every night before bed, you've been out for two months."

"Any idea how much longer till Yurie will sleep?" Kenji asked.

"It shouldn't be too much longer now, you're bound to each other. So, since your awake she must be almost ready to wake up. I doubt it will be only another five minutes though." Yashima said with a smile. "I will go get everyone, they will be thrilled to know."

Ino-Shika-Chou suddenly showed up sensing one of them was awake. "We're so glad to see you awake Kenji, we were really worried." Shika said with glee.

"The chairman wants to see you both when Yurie wakes up, your both being given special awards for your actions saving Onomichi." Ino said with pride.

"I hope she wakes up soon, we have so many wishes waiting." Chou said with trepidation.

They left to inform the Chairman that Kenji had woken up.

Kenji leaned over and gave Yurie a kiss on the lips and said, "Rise and shine, Yurie."

Yurie smiled and opened eyes.

Thank you for reading this story. Sorry it's a little long, it sort of took on a life of its own. Hope you enjoyed and if you did like and review please.
