Don't own Teen Titans (If I did, there would be no Teen Titans Go. =).
It all started out strange enough. The team was just locking up Dr. Light from his crime spree. "Looks like the lights are out for this guy," Beastboy joked. The team groaned.
"When are you going to learn that your jokes aren't funny," Raven asked.
"Until they become funny," The green teenager said persistently.
"Come on, team. Let's head home," Robin called.
"Aw Yeah! Time to finish up on that BBQ rib meal," Cyborg drooled, rubbing his hands in anticipation. Just as the group was about to leave, Beastboy thought of something.
"Hey, Rae!"
"It's Raven," She corrected.
"Why don't you just transport us all to the tower? It would be much easier," Beastboy suggested. It would, but there is always a catch when it comes to magic.
"I can't. Not all the time. It takes a lot of concentration, something you don't have, to make a portal that large. I only do it for an emergency. And no, your video games are not an emergency!" Raven glared, causing her black aura to appear. Beastboy nervously grinned as they drove back to the tower.
Later in the afternoon, Beastboy became a bit bored and wandered to Raven's room. Why he always picked her was beyond anyone, but Raven had a pretty good idea. Cyborg would go on about techno things, Robin would always train, Starfire wasn't really a good person to have a "conversation" with, and Silkie was just... Silkie. So that left Raven. Someone who he could at least understand... a bit. "Raven! I have a surprise for you!" he practically screamed, knocking on the door.
"Is it a way to make you disappear?" Raven asked through the door.
"No," Beastboy exclaimed, a bit upset, "It's my new creation."
"What joy," Raven said in a monotone manner as she opened her door. She saw in the animal shifter's hands a box of earplugs. Raven's eyebrow rose.
"What? You don't like them?"
"Why would you give me earplugs?"
"These are special earplugs. They only work when you're meditating or there's an emergency. It will help you focus better," Beastboy nervously smiled. Though a thoughtful gesture, the empath seemed to note something off about the young teen's demeanor.
"What are you planning?" She asked, suspiciously.
"Nnnnnothing," Beastboy stuttered. Raven hesitantly took the earplugs.
"Thanks," She shortly said and returned to the domain of her room. Beastboy rubbed his hands together in a sinister way.
"Phase one complete. Now for phase B," Beastboy smirked. He turned into a small green spider, crept underneath the empath's door, and searched the room for something. Beastboy was trying to learn a magic word or two to impress Raven. That and something to make sure that he could survive in the dimension that she always threatened to send him. But then something went wrong. Beastboy noticed that he couldn't see Raven. He quickly turned into a small cat, which had better low light eyesight. He still couldn't find Raven. Then he changed back into a human. "Where is she?"
"Boo."
"AHHH!" Beastboy jumped when he realized that a mad, glowing-eyed Raven was behind him. "Hi, Rae," He sheepishly smiled.
"What are you doing in my room?!"
"I was just... looking for a spell," Beastboy twiddled his thumbs. Raven immediately came out of her anger. Beastboy never messed with her magic. What would cause him to do something completely out of his character? Then she remembered. This was Beastboy we were talking about. It didn't matter.
"What spell were you thinking of using?" Raven asked very controlled.
"I don't know. Something... useful," Beastboy shrugged. Raven crossed her arms.
"So you managed to create this somewhat elaborate plan just to find some kind of spell that you know nothing about? Did it ever occur to you that you may find a spell that can destroy half the planet?" Raven asked.
"Never thought of it like that," Beastboy replied. Raven sighed.
"Just... why would you go through that much trouble," Raven asked. She sensed his apprehension and fear all of a sudden. Why? What was he scared of? Ugh, she didn't have the time to deal with it. The red lights started to flash in the room as they were called to another emergency. "Never. Go. In my room," She ended the conversation.
"Yes, ma'am," Beastboy timidly replied. The Teen Titans were called to a history museum where Mumbo Jumbo was stealing precious artifacts.
"Oh, the wondrous items that await the great magician today," The blue crook gleamed as his magic hat started absorbing all the trinkets. He was stopped when a Robin boomerang knocked his hat from his hand. "DAH!"
"Sorry Mumbo Jumbo, but the museum doesn't allow disappearing attacks," Robin said. Sneering annoyance, Mumbo tossed exploding eggs at the team. Dodging them, Robin jumped towards the magician, but Mumbo twirled his magic wand and cast Robin into the dinosaur exhibit. Cyborg blasted his sonic cannon only to have Mumbo Jumbo absorb it into his hat and fire it back at Cyborg.
"Ah ha! You should know better than to mess with the great Mmmmumbo Jumbo!" He snickered. Suddenly, he felt a hand grab him by the foot and swing him upside down. "HEY!" he exclaimed as the hand jiggled his bag of tricks to the floor.
"That was easy," Beastboy laughed as Raven finished using her magic. After placing Mumbo on the floor, the blue magician needed an exit.
"Sorry everyone, the show's over," He said, about to grab a deep green colored gem in an elaborate golden necklace fashion. Raven grabbed it first with her magic, but Mumbo Jumbo wouldn't have that. "Oh no, you don't!" He shot out a bolt of lightning at the sorceress, knocking her back. The gem was about to fall to the ground.
"I got it!" Beastboy shouted as he dove for the gem. Mumbo shot another lightning bolt while Raven tried to save Beastboy. The two magician's magic met around Beastboy as the green gem started to glow. "Um... guys?"
"What's happening?" Robin asked worriedly.
"Something's got me!" Mumbo shouted, struggling to pull his wand away.
"The gem," Raven struggled, "It's absorbing my powers." Suddenly, lights started to flash all around Beastboy. Ancient glowing symbols whirled around his face as he found himself in a bright shining vortex of green. Then, in an instance...
"AHHH!" Everyone shouted as a blast from the gem knocked everyone down. Raven rubbed her head as she rose up first.
"Where's Beastboy?"
"Uuughh," Mumbo Jumbo mumbled and jumbled. He was completely out. Robin looked all around.
"He's gone," Robin said.
"I can't find his signal anywhere on earth," Cyborg replied. Raven's eyes glowed brightly as she grabbed the blue magician by the collar with her magic and spoke to him with her demonic voice.
"What did you do to him!" Raven shouted.
"I.I. I don't know. What happened?" Mumbo Jumbo innocently squeaked. Raven dropped Mumbo and stared at the ground. Robin walked up to her and rested his hand on her shoulder.
"He'll be okay. I know he's around somewhere," Robin replied. However, Robin was only half right.
Beastboy woke up. His outstretched hand was the first thing he saw. It was still covered in its glove. He slowly rose up and checked himself all over. He was still intact. However, he felt... different somehow. As if something was ripped from him. "What happened?" Beastboy grumbled as he rubbed his head, trying to regain some kind of active consciousness. Slowly, visions and figures started to appear. He saw golden buildings screeching to the sky. A large main building stood above all of them, surrounded by four small towers, each decorated in fine ancient Gothic detail. He noticed people in white robes walking around, some even having hoods on. "Am I in heaven?"
"Mother, who is that?" said a small girl.
"Guards! Intruders!" Suddenly, Beastboy was surrounded by this circle of bright light, effectively immobilizing him.
"Hey, I can't move," Beastboy struggled.
"What are you doing here, mortal?" Asked a monotone voice as Beastboy looked up to see the figure descending. She was covered in a white robe like the rest, but as she took off her hood, Beastboy recognized her.
"Raven?" Beastboy asked. "Raven, it's me, Beastboy." The 'Raven' seemed confused and surprised.
"How do you know my daughter?" she replied.
"Daughter? Wait? You're Raven's mother?! That's awesome! I'm friends with her! Sort of."
"Sort of?"
"She and I have a... complicated relationship," Beastboy waved around his hand a bit, trying to brush it off. The 'Raven' gave a small smirk.
"I can imagine. How did you enter Azarath?" She asked.
"Azar-who?" Beastboy asked as The 'Raven' released him from her spell.
"Azarath, home to the peaceful people of Azar," She replied.
"Are you sure? You don't seem kind to strangers," Beastboy pointed out.
"I apologize. Humans tend to...bring war with them into Azarath," She answered.
"Well, I'm sorry, but I have to get back to my friends. They're probably worried about me," Beastboy replied. "By the way, Rae's mom... or what can I call you?"
"Arella is fine," She answered.
"Oh, Arella, how was Raven as a child?" Arella seemed greatly confused.
"What do you mean 'was'? She still is a child. She has just been sent to Azar to further learn how to control her powers?" Beastboy's eyes widened.
"Wait, so she's still... a kid?!" Beastboy asked. "I've been sent back in time to Raven's home," Beastboy screamed, grabbing his hair and ripping some of it out.
This is where it all begins. A story that is not like many others. A journey to a better understanding of our green hero and his purple haired companion. This is where our story begins.
