And it wasn't until watching this video that I realized they really are in love. But they won't admit it.

Maura lay in her bed looking up at the ceiling as she pondered her feelings regarding Jane. She was quite sure that she was in love with the detective, but also knew that the detective was straight and would never feel the same way about her. Sure, she constantly flirted with Maura, but it was always the playful friendly flirting that best friends occasionally did. As far as Maura could tell, Jane's flirting was a joke. The flirtatious attitude Maura took with Jane occasionally was real, though Jane never realized it. That was probably due to her own fake flirting. But while she held no allusions to Jane's feelings regarding her, she often found herself wishing that the detective would have the same kind of feelings she did, and also hoping for it to happen. Alas, it hadn't happened yet. Then as she lay there, there was a knock on the door. She got out of bed and walked to the door. She answered.
"Jane?"

The brunette was obviously drunk, for she was stumbling and Maura could smell the beer on her breath.
"Jane, you're drunk," Maura said flatly.

"Can I come in," Jane slurred out.

Maura stepped aside and Jane stumbled in. She took two steps into the house before collapsing heavily to the ground. Jane woke with a horrible headache. She closed her eyes and pressed her hand to her head. She opened her eyes, her headache having passed and saw Maura lying next to her. The blonde was sound asleep. Maura's hand was on Jane's stomach. Maura stirred as Jane smiled.

"How are you feeling, Jane?"

"Worst hangover I've ever had," Jane said bluntly, clutching her head again as another wave of pain swept across her.

"Let me get you some water and Aspirin," Maura said, sliding out of bed.

After a moment, she returned, holding a glass of water and a single pill. Jane took a big drink of the water, then popped the pill in her mouth and drank again, washing the pill down. As Maura administered to Jane, helping her hangover, she realized that while Jane would never love her as more than a friend, she was comfortable just being there as a friend to the brunette. To her knowledge, harmless flirting with someone who didn't seem to mind never hurt anyone.

That was awesome to write. I greatly enjoyed creating it, and it came out just about the way I wanted it to.
