Prologue

"They killed everyone." The white she-cat snarled. "My entire family is dead."

A blue-gray tom rubbed against her side. "I know, but you can't dwell on it."

Her eyes hardened. "You know nothing. You didn't even know my family. What if your sister or you mother was killed. You would want revenge."

The tom rolled his eyes. "Yes, but only on the cats that did it, not the entire Clan. Your mother, father, and brother were all fighting in the name of your Clan. They died honorably, but they were on another Clan's territory. You need to think about this rationally."

The she-cat sat down and clamped her mouth shut. Maybe he was right. She couldn't kill an entire Clan, but she could kill a select few, but maybe that wasn't the way to go. Why couldn't she have seen that? She growled a little.

"What's wrong?" The tom asked, looking worried.

"Nothing." The she-cat purred. "You know how to make any cat calm. Why can't we just be together?"

"Come with me and we can." The tom whispered in her ear. The white she-cat got to her paws and started to cross the border.

"Wake up!" A kit's squeaky voice rang, shattering the she-cat's dream. She looked around drowsily and saw a blue-gray she-kit right in her face. But when she looked at the kit, she didn't see her daughter, she saw her lost love.
