Seeing Red
Surprisingly, he's only been asked this a couple of times. Perhaps it was because he didn't often communicate verbally with others, or maybe it is because on the intimidation he stirred when he walked into the room with an indifferent expression often mistaken for a glare? Quite a strange concept, but he understood why the couple that have asked him are wondering this. His eyes are, after all, red.
"Hey, Itachi?" Kisame was the second to ask him. "Does your vision turn red when you activate your Sharingan?" It was a simple question, really, and there was an even easier answer to mutter, but when he heard the question for the second time in his life Itachi reflected to the first inquisition of his eye sight.
"Hey, big brother?" His replica stares up at him eagerly as they walk home from training. Itachi looks down at his little brother curiously. "You can use the Sharingan, right?"
"Hm? Yes." He couldn't help but to increase his curiosity. "Why?"
"Do..." Sasuke murmurs to himself and glances away as if embarrassed by his question. Itachi simply asks him to speak up. "Do you see red when you use the Sharingan?"
"See red?" Itachi tilts his head to the side at the thought. He definitely didn't. Why was his little brother curious about this?
"Because your eyes are supposed to turn red when you use the Sharingan, so I was thinking..." Itachi catches on and nods in understanding. Gosh, he really hasn't looked in the mirror in a while. Did his eyes really turn red when he used the Sharingan? Obviously he knew what the bloodline limit looked like but he had yet to examine the red eyes within his own sockets.
"No. You don't see red when you use it, Sasuke." His little brother releases a small sigh of relief, making Itachi give a slight scoff. Ah, so he was worried about it.."No need to worry about it."
"I wasn't worried!" Sasuke clenches his small fists. "I was just excited about getting my Sharingan!" Itachi couldn't help but laugh. A partial cover up and partial truth...
He remembered the night of the Uchiha's demise. Oh, how could he forget? He used his Sharingan the whole night for the sake of being able to keep track of the clan's movements as they walked the streets and entered and exited their houses, so not only did he get to see everything extra clearly but that just helped imprint the blood into his mind. The blood...
"Did you hear me Itachi?" Kisame asks as he leans forward a little to look into his shorter partner's face. Itachi's eyes clear up from the short session of memories and glances up at his blue partner.
"Yes."
"Yes?" Kisame slowly makes the connection of Itachi's answer to his question. "Really?" The simple answer was destroyed.
"Yes. I see red when I use the Sharingan." Itachi murmurs this, dwelling on all of the deaths he's kept personally close to his heart and even more so in his vision.
"Huh...That's surprising, actually..." Kisame mutters to himself while continuing to ponder the thought. Perhaps the red irises did change the color of your world...?
