The sweet sugar cakes Ty Lee insisted upon burn.
Azula does not burn them, surprisingly enough. They also do not burn in the oven, like most cakes. One of the many, many, many red candles Ty Lee had filed to the exact same height tipped and burnt the dessert table. Azula could have stifled it faster but she, 'was distracted by Ty Lee's beauty' and Ty Lee believed that lie.
The peppermint tea is too minty and one of the pitchers lacked the sugar Ty Lee demanded. It was Iroh's doing. He could not live with himself if he did not allow at least one of the batches of tea to be pure and not meddled with by the bride.
The sugar, he thought to himself again and again, yuck.
The wedding day is as cloudy as could be. In fact, the sun does not even poke through the clouds, which is a terrible omen for Fire Nation weddings. Ty Lee almost rescheduled before hyperventilating, and Azula made the call that they would continue as planned.
The chopped evergreen tree decorations that symbolize their unending love are apparently the wrong scent. Ty Lee claims she asked for another kind and threw a fit, almost ruining her perfect wedding make-up. No one else can tell the difference.
The fireplace isn't blue enough. Azula halfheartedly took care of that twice before putting her foot down. No, before distracting Ty Lee with sparkly things and comments about her dress, but that's technically the same thing as putting her foot down.
A blizzard strikes halfway through. That confines everyone inside and destroys that outdoor decorations, but Ty Lee manages to keep her cool through that one. She thinks snow is pretty, and it's good luck on Kyoshi Island, and so she hopes it balances out the bad luck from the cloudy day.
Ty Lee has a fever. Her nose is dripping and she ruined one of her priceless napkins blowing it. She, of course, would get a nasty cold just in time for her dream wedding. Azula thinks she looks stunning anyway, and even if she does not say it, Ty Lee knows.
Iroh gives the gift of advice for twenty minutes. It is the most boring speech in the history of time, and not at all what Ty Lee had hoped.
The ribbons on Ty Lee's dress of pink diamonds come undone and during her speech, she flashes the guests of the reception. At least she chose her prettiest bra for this pretty day, and everyone laughed it off. It will be something to remember it by.
Azula now dances with Ty Lee. They spin and they can forget the smell of burnt cakes, the snow piling up outside and Ty Lee's runny nose. Their love has consisted of dancing on the edge of disaster, but now they are dancing to forget a disaster.
"It wasn't your dream wedding, was it?" Azula whispers as her hands slide further down Ty Lee's back.
"It was a total wreck," Ty Lee admits before smiling and laughing. She leans in closer to Azula and the princess can feel the illness invading her body. "It wasn't my dream wedding, but it was still perfect."
"That's good to hear but I don't care. I think that this would have been the most boring wedding on the planet if it went how you micromanaged it to be. The surprises are what make it memorable."
Ty Lee sighs. "Yeah, yeah."
"My favorite surprise was when the front of your dress fell off."
Ty Lee steps on Azula's foot.
And sweetly, Ty Lee whispers, "Oops. I'm just not the best dancer, am I?"
She steps on it again.
