Fleur stands by the window clutching herself as the cold breeze wafts through the open space. The backyard beyond is bathed in light of the full silver moon hanging among the twinkling stars. She likes to look at it - so vast, so mysterious, so far away yet so powerful. It always reminds her of what could have been, how her life could have been changed for the worse. She knows that though she may put on a brave face, she couldn't live that life. She knows it would be hard for her to love a monster. Even though his smile, his laugh, the rusty metallic smell that seems to follow him even after a shower, would still be there, the one time it wasn't would tear her apart. Was she a coward, not strong enough to stay and love her husband during such a time of dire need?

She lets out a sigh. It is no use dwelling on what could have been. We must focus on what is. She turns around to the bed they share and sees her husband gently snoozing, his long red hair splayed out around his head on the pillow like an angel. She smiles because she is grateful that she can spend every night with him in this bed, warm within his embrace, his lips on her neck, whether the moon hangs full in the sky or not.
