Lin is one. Toph is twenty three. Sokka is twenty nine.

"Sokka?" she asks as I walk into the room. She's not facing me, but it's not like that changes anything. She always knows when it's me.

"Hey Toph" I say walking towards where she's sitting. It's been a while since I've really spoken to her. I mean I see her at work, but we're so busy, the city is just getting on its feet. We hardly have any time to ourselves, and the time we spend takes its toll. Toph knows.

I sit down across from her at the table. She's holding onto the side of her tea, but she's not drinking it. Underneath the table Lin is playing. I peek down under the table at her. She's barley two and already metal bending. She has a pair of metal chopsticks bent in her fists.

"I'm sorry about everything that's happened" I tell her, because I am, and I don't know what else to say. I wish I could make a joke to make her smile, but I don't. After years of knowing Toph, I know this isn't the time for jokes.

There's a long pause, and I don't say anything. She sips her tea. Toph isn't crying. She's never been weepy, but I know she's hurting because she's quiet. She doesn't mock me, or have any sarcastic quips. And even if she can't see with her eyes, they still say so much, her eyes half covered, her eye brows straight and emotionless.

"You know" she finally says "I always thought being able to tell when people were lying was a good thing."

I have heard. I haven't heard from Toph, but I've heard.

"He said it was my fault" Toph breathes, betraying no emotion in her voice.

"How is it your fault?" I snap, but I'm not thinking about what I'm saying, what I'm alluding to.

"He said I've been ignoring our marriage…" she says.

"You were working hard! You were trying to make this city better for your family!" I argue "He was the one sleeping around!" She purses her lips and then releases a heavy breath, and I know I've been more explicit than intended.

"Thanks" Toph says with something that could be distantly related to a smile. "Everyone keeps tip toeing around me as if I'm going to break, but" she stops, and can see her fingers pressing into her cup "I'm stronger than that."

We sit silently for a few moments. I look at her. She's grown up a lot since I first met her. She still wears her hair pulled back, but she's grown taller and her face has matured. She was a child when we met and now, now she's a woman. She's a woman who's made so much of her life, done more than was ever expected of her.

"What's happening with Lin?" I ask.

"He's left her with me" she says "I was ready to go to court, and I think he knew that." I glance down at the little girl beneath the table.

Lin seems so small. She has bright green eyes like her father, but her mother's skin tone, and dark black hair. The precise angular shape of his face is apparent in Lin even now. He was a very beautiful man, as well as a scum bag. She really is a beautiful child, truly the product of her mother and father.

"If you ever need anything" I start "We're all here for you. Aang, Katara,me…even Zuko. We know you're strong, but we want to." I smile, even though she can't see it, I hope she hears it in my voice. "We're family."
