IF YOU NEED ME

AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER

I loved the latest ep "Your Day Is Coming" but it was sadly lacking in a Casey/Sev scene, and I wanted to remedy that. Chicago Fire belongs to Dick Wolf and NBC. I kept Shay alive, because it's just hard for me to say she's dead.

Kelly couldn't believe what Boden had just told him. Gabby had lost the baby. Damn, they must be devastated, he thought to himself. Especially Gabby, who had already been through so much with all the drama that had happened in the past year: nearly losing Shay, Gish coming after them…He gave himself a mental shake as he hung up the call with Boden and then dialed Matt's number.

"Hello?" he heard the other man ask.

"Hey, Boden just told me. How you holding up?" he wondered. Matt let out a sigh.

"Not well. I was looking forward to it and now…" Kelly nodded even though his friend couldn't see him. He couldn't even imagine what they were going through. He had never experienced the kind of pain Matt and Gabby had just gone through.

"You need me to come down?" he asked.

"No. No, you concentrate on the investigation," Matt replied. The last thing he or Gabby wanted was Kelly dropping everything just for them.

"Are you sure?" Kelly asked. "I don't mind coming down there," he assured.

"I know you don't. And I appreciate it," Matt responded. "But to be honest, I think Gabby's starting to feel a little overwhelmed," he commented.

"Yeah, of course," Kelly agreed. And he could understand that. If he was in their position, he would be torn between wanting the others close by and wanting to be alone. He couldn't even imagine what they were going through. That kind of pain…why them? Why was this always happening to them? And why did it have to happen when Shay was out of town? Damn, this sucks, he thought to himself. He just didn't know what to do. "But just know that if you guys need me-" he began to say.

"You're here," Matt finished for him.

"Yeah," Kelly said.

"We know. And it's appreciated," Matt said. Then, he hung up. Thank God for Kelly, he thought to himself. While the man wasn't that big on talking about feelings and being all mushy, he knew that he'd do anything for them. And for that, he was grateful…
