Disclaimer: I don't own Rookie Blue (and if I did, it would be more than 13 episodes and Andy would have already dumped Luke and moved on to be with Sam).

A.N. While rewatching Honor Roll, this short one-shot jumped out at me.

Enjoy!

The lesson that Sam had given to her on the day that the entire department found out that Traci had a kid rang through her head:

"Let me tell you something about partners, okay. You back them up no matter what!"

"I know that."

"You know that. So why did you let Nash dangle back there? Boyko's gonna be very unhappy."

"Yeah well she…"

"Yeah, you knew she was leaving. Right? You must have told her it was okay. Look, I get it okay? What you said to that kid. Your mother left you, you felt abandoned and now you want to stand alone. But in this job you can't do it alone. You have to have each other's back. You stand behind your partner. ALWAYS.

Now, standing with Chris in Sgt. Best's office with Sam and Noelle reporting their findings, she debated about what to do.

They had finished with the information they had gathered, and Noelle had asked "Why didn't you come to one of us with this earlier?"

Chris motioned with his hand and then looked at Andy. Her thoughts swirled around her head, going in dizzying circles. She should have Chris' back, he was her partner. But, covering for him meant getting Sam into trouble because he was the officer she had tried to go to.

Before she could think for too long about what to do, Sam covered for her "they tried. I was distracted. I didn't listen."

Andy didn't hear the rest of the conversation until Sgt. Best said "dismissed." She was busy thinking what she should have done to protect Sam. He was her partner for the most part. For all that he was a training officer, she was the only one ever assigned to him. She needed someone to talk to about this and couldn't go to him. She didn't know who to go to. Logic would say her father, but he was probably too drunk to give good advice. So, she would keep this bottled up, like many other aspects of her life.

The rest of the shift passed in silence. When she finished, she headed to the Black Penny even though she knew Luke wanted to meet her in his office.

She was walking out of the bar when Sam stopped her and apologized. She should have said something about trying to cover for him and Chris. She wanted to. What ended up coming out was "Me too." Honestly, she was sorry that he hadn't listened, she was also sorry that she hadn't been more persistent, sorry that when he hadn't listened she didn't go to Noelle.

Luke had effectively ended their conversation by coming into the Penny to look for her...

So here she was, drinking straight from the bottle, thinking that she was going to turn into her father before the night was over. What she should have done differently would plague her for a long time and she knew it.
