No Longer DerekandAddison
This idea just popped into my head while I tried to come up with the next chapter of Daddy's Little Girl. There are two points of view: Addison's and Mark's. I own nothing, sadly.
Part 1: Addison
He left. He just…left. He didn't even put up that much of a fight. He saw me in bed with his best friend, and all he could do was throw my clothes out onto the steps of the Brownstone.
I wanted to fight. I want to fix our marriage because I believe that we can fix what we have both screwed up. But he was just content to leave. Just like he's been content to take a backseat approach to our marriage for the past year. I'm just as much of a "big deal surgeon" as he is, but I would never ever consider sending Savvy to dinner with him for our anniversary, like he did with Mark.
It's almost like Derek asked for me to sleep with Mark. He practically forced him on me and made him a surrogate husband. A fill-in. And all I wanted was for my husband to love me and pay attention to me. So when I couldn't get that, I let in the guy who did love me. Mark.
When I stood up at the church on my wedding day surrounded by friends and family, I never pictured that my life and my marriage would come to this. I never believed that I'd be lying in another man's arms after watching Derek leave me for Seattle of all places. Because that's not something that would happen to DerekandAddison.
But, I realized as Mark whispered comforting words into my ear, we were no longer DerekandAddison.
Part 2: Mark
My best friend proved to be a coward tonight. He found me sleeping with his wife and he just left without fighting. And trust me when I say that Derek Shepherd is good at fighting. He throws amazing hissy fits and I think he even likes to.
So one would reasonably think that after finding his wife, the beautiful Addison Montgomery-Shepherd, in bed with another man, he would fight. He would yell and scream and fight. But he didn't. I guess I shouldn't have expected anything more. He practically shoved Addison at me, sending me to dinner in his place on their anniversary, and all that. He never even figured out that I was in love with Addie.
As I lay in the Shepherds' bed holding Addison while she cried, I realized that the end to this marriage was so unexpected. With two of the most fiery people ever to live on planet Earth, I expected so much more than Derek just leaving. DerekandAddison fight, they don't walk out.
But, I realized while trying to comfort Addison in some small way, they were no longer DerekandAddison. And I couldn't decide whether to be happy about that or not.
