Kate and Taylor's love story, told by Taylor himself. Hear what their short relationship was all about through his point of view. Every chapter will be another day.
I don't own anything from My Sister's Keeper.
I met her today. My angel, the reason I am still here. Even in such a dark place, I could see her wings. Kate Fitzgerald. Her name even sounds heavenly.
The day started like any other, same shit, different day. I was scheduled for another round of poison at that hell they call a hospital. It's been a month since I relapsed, and the treatment is starting to show some improvement. As I was finishing my round, I hear the most beautiful voice.
"Hi." She looks up at me. Cancer is written all over her. Her hands show the scars of graft-versus-host, her body is thin from chemo, but still, she is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.
"Hello." I didn't know what to say. My mouth found it hard to make words. I tried to keep my cool, seeming uninterested.
"What are you here for?" You, my mind whispered. Quickly, I searched my mind for the answer to her question, and something to make her laugh.
"The free cocktails." Her mother looked up shocked; she let out a small giggle.
"Happy hour," she replied. Her smile was like the sun, shining ever so brightly.
"I'm Taylor, AML." The sound of my voice sounded all wrong. I was nervous around her, an unusual feeling.
"Kate. APL." The air went out of me. APL is a rarity and deadly. My mind was yelling at me to run. But it was too late; I had already fallen too hard. "Rarity," I remarked.
"Yeah, right?" Despite the severity of her cancer, she seemed to keep upbeat. I was awestruck by her strength.
"So, what do you do when you're not here at the hospital?" I had to see her again. Already, I was trying to devise a plan.
"Wait for something else to put me back in here." Her voice was filled with truth and sadness. It told of a hard life, full of pain. I wanted to ease her pain. I had to ease her pain.
"Well, maybe we can wait together. What's your phone number?" Her eyes lit up at the question. She looked to her mom for a pen. Her mother, tired from the constant fight she obviously was fitting for her daughter, fumbled to find one quickly. Once I held the pen in my hand, I waited for that magic number. She told me the series of numbers, obviously excited. Just as I finish writing, the nurse informs me I am done. I wanted to protest, find a way to stay later and talk to Kate, but I knew my mother was waiting.
"Well I got to go. I'll call you, Kate." I sounded like such a dork. I waved goodbye, and turned to leave. I could hear her questioning her mom, asking if I would call. I could hear her commenting on how cute I was. My mind was reeling with excitement. I quickly dug out my cell, dialing the numbers in fast, and waited to hear her pick up.
"Hello?" I already missed that voice.
"Okay, Just making sure you didn't give me a bogus number." She giggled, and my heart melted. It was in that moment I knew, I will love this girl. I asked her to hang out tomorrow, hardly being able to wait to see her. All day I have been walking on clouds. Tomorrow needs to hurry up. I can hardly wait to see her beautiful face again.
