AUTHOR'S NOTE: This takes place in season 1 of Angel when Wesley just arrived.
Cordelia flipped through the pages of the musty book. She was going to show Mr. Wesley Wydham Pryce that he wasn't the only one who knew about demons. She came upon the 'R's of the demon dictionary and scrolled down the page with her finger. Rigaro, Rigamortus, Ryso. All demons that began with an 'R' but no "rogue demons". Perhaps she had overlooked it. She scrolled the page again with the same results. Damn! She had to find out what the hell a rogue demon was. Wesley wasn't going to get the best of her. She was Cordelia Chase, aspiring movie star and seer, after all. She picked up another volume and begin searching the pages. Hours had passed and still Angel and Wesley weren't back from slaying the demon. Perhaps she should call them. What would she say if they asked what she was doing? Laundry. She would tell them she was doing Angel's laundry. No, she didn't like doing her own laundry and wouldn't do Angel's laundry even if offered her a raise. She decided it was none of their business if they asked what she was doing. She picked up the telephone and dialed Angel's cell number and waited for the ring.
"Damn cell phone, I just want to throw it away...hello"
"Hey, Angel, I was just wondering where you two were."
"Oh, we're on our way back from killing the demon, we're only ten minutes away."
"Good, good."
"Was something wrong"
"No, no, I was just...wondering."
"Oh, okay."
"Okay, bye."
She hung up the phone and went back to the books. She had to find it. Midway through her sixth book an idea hit her. Maybe there was no such thing as a "rogue demon". Maybe Wesley had made it up to make himself look smarter. Yeah, that was it. After all it wasn't in any of these books and did books lie? Of course not. That would be silly. She stood up and paced the room, anxious for the two to get back. Just as they walked in she sat behind the desk and tried to look busy filing her nails. The two men were covered in slime from head to toe.
"I'm gonna go take a shower and get this off me."
Angel disappeared into the elevator and Wesley looked at Cordelia, who was now wearing a smug smile on her face.
"Uh...is something wrong, Cordelia"
"No, no, nothing except the fact that you lied to me."
"Huh"
She stood up and went to him, pressing a finger into his chest.
"I'm onto you, buster. There's no such thing as a rogue demon and I know it. You can't fool Cordelia Chase."
With that she grabbed up her purse and left the room, feeling quite proud that she had caught Wesley. Rogue demon, yeah right.
