Alone and Yet, Not Alone

Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh!

A/N: Right now, this is what I'm feeling because my friends all graduated from high school and it feels like I'm left behind because I was supposed to graduate with them but I'm behind held back a year because my old school screwed me over. Yes, I'm still in high school, surprise, surprise.

She never felt so alone. They were her only friends. They had helped her through thick and thin when she moved in with her brother. Now her brother and his friends, their friends, were all gone. Joey had moved out of the house to stay with Yugi and Tristan in an apartment closer to the university so the apartment was hers to live in. All alone. It was like Tea had said one day: to be strong, one must realize what isn't always going to be there. Serenity Wheeler took those words to heart.

Rubbing her eyes, she felt the warm tear swell up and blur her vision before falling and leaving cold trails from the AC blowing on them. Her friends, her bother, her whole "family" had just graduated. She missed the ceremony due to work and had apologized over it, faking a smile and making it seem like it was no big deal, but when she was alone, she bawled her eyes and heart out.

"It feels empty. I'm left behind again," she whispered to the glass as she looked out the starry sky, catching her reflection and the tears that fell from her face. "I'll never be full." Tea was like a sister to her, the two did almost everything together. It was hard to lose a sister when you just got one not too long ago, especially to a good school in New York, the dancing school in America. Yugi was always there to support her, just like Joey so it was hard to lose the smallest of the group, even if he was catching up quite quickly in height. Tristan and Duke had promised to come by and see her from time to time but Duke had received a scholarship to a school in San Francisco and started to move back there. Her whole life had been wasted on a few precious memories and that's when Serenity broke down.

Who would be there to hug her when she ran by in the hallway? Who would be there to help cheer up if someone had teased her? Who would find her in the bathrooms and chat about nothing? Who would be there when she received good test grades and make her feel better when she did poorly on other tests? None of her friends would be there to help her.

The phone rang once, twice, three times before Serenity picked it up. "Hello?"

"Hey Ren! Just called to see how you're doing. Listen, my and the guys thought it would be a good idea if we spend the night over or you can come over here. Tea is coming over so you wouldn't have to feel like you're the odd ball out," her brother said, a smile in his voice.

Serenity let a few tears fall before nodding. "I'd like that, thanks Joey."

"Hey Serenity, it's okay to cry but we don't want you to do it alone. You can still come over and see us and we'll lend a few shoulders to you and a few fists to whoever had hurt you," she heard. Joey always knew a way to make her smile. "Come on, sis, don't start crying again or I'll cry and I'd rather not cry right now."

Serenity gave the phone a sad smile and nodded again. "Alright Joey, I'll be there soon."

"Better yet, let Tristan pick you up. It's too dark for you to be walking out alone at night. You know we are all still here for you and care about you, right Ren?"

"Right, Joey."

"Atta girl, now get ready. See you in a bit, right?"

"Yeah, you'll see me."

"Good. I'll see you when you get here."

"Bye Joey."

Hanging up, she wiped her eyes and smiled. She couldn't see all of her friends but then again, she didn't need to see them to know that they were still in her heart, for now and for all time.
