The Outcast
Chapter 1 - Hidden
It just hit me that today was Monday, and that the school week was just beginning. Today was an exam day and I felt the need to avoid it. After a few minutes of thinking to myself, the realization of the cold, dark, lonely time I would be spending seeped into my head.
"Brian wake up!" My mom, shouted violently at me. I was already up and had no patience to deal with her yelling. What was her problem anyway? I was a senior about to graduate his final days of high school with decent grades.
If anything, I could use some serious "R+R" for myself. Thinking it through, talking back would only get me into another argument, so what else could I do, I got up. In the shower, Ashlynn appeared in my head. This was getting a bit out of control, and I knew my desire for her was only a mere fantasy. She was everything. She has beauty, humor, smarts, and an immeasurable self confidence. She didn't care what others would think of her. Because in the end she always came up on top.
I always envied her self esteem, since I was more of an insecure outcast. This greatly lowered my chances of having anything like a relationship in school. Because it just so happens that girls my age, only like assholes that treat them like shit. It was rather odd, I didn't really understand why. But it was something that you couldn't question. I shouldn't be generalizing females into one specific category. There were exceptions of course...Ashylnn.
I took the city bus to school, I nearly missed it. The first thing I observed stepping onto the bus was to be the same bus driver from Friday telling me to hurry up. I quickly sprinted to the nearest seat that had both spaces empty. Sitting patiently, I heard others talk voluntarily about their lives, It was strangely very interesting. Almost better than watching the Channel 7 News. The people on the bus actually had real problems, and even better, no one was dying. Even though some stories were immensely graphic, I found myself hiding a chuckle in the corner of my lips.
After stepping off the bus, noticing the "help wanted" sign at a local pharmacy where Ashlynn worked was simply just ironic. I had some time to kill, so why not ask for an application? I walked up to the door and tried opening it. It was locked.
"Too early." I muttered softly to myself.
Suprisingly my only friend, Kevin was behind me the whole time, "You wont get the job, man. Heard seven kids already appli-"
"Shit, where'd you come from?" Not knowing who it was the first second.
"Does it matter?" He said in a tone that sounded defensively.
Kevin was my one of my best friends throughout highschool. He was the only kid that actually palled around with me. Walking the streets of Terrence was what we usually did. He and I always found short cuts through the town. Kevin was also the only kid that could sneak up on me, and not alot of people could. I was extremely observant just not at this particular time.
