AN: So this is a little opening piece, which may or may not look familiar to some of you. If it does, that is because it was originally published as the first chapter to a retired story called 'Retrodictions' by my previous pen name, Saltillo. After some intensive editing, it's back up in all of it's newly edited glory. The succeeding chapters will hopefully be less vague, and more satisfying in word count. Feel free to review or comment, both are always welcome!

Summary: "The world they've created for him is miserable, destructive, cruel. And yet, he's come to love it, as blindly as he loves you or I."

"...No." The word is so softly spoken, I wonder if it's even said.

We stand in the rain, garbage springing up all around us.

The charming cubes of water, just the city's trash. I was blind.

Why are you so evil?

I turn and walk away.

Another bag appears. I don't see it. My heel catches the edge, ripping it open.

Secrets spill out, littering wet pavement.

I almost fall, and hear him step forward.

Did you really think I would ever be with you?

I quicken my pace, hoping I'm not looking back.

For a moment, we were beautiful.
