Disclaimer: If I owned HP, Bellatrix wouldn't be dead. Nor would Remus, or poor Tonks, or, yeah, you get it, right?

AN: This came to us when we stumbled upon one too many Veela!Draco fics. I mean, seriously, why is he a Veela?

Draco Malfoy was going through inner turmoil. Terrible, terrible inner turmoil. He was in love.

No.

It was more than that. It was like...

Like...

It was powerful.

It was frightening.

It was... There were no words for it. Really.

Draco had never spoken to the man. He'd never met him, for God's sake!

But that didn't matter, because Draco knew, beyond anything else, that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with this person. Draco had found his soul mate.

No, scrap that. Draco had no clue whatsoever where his soul mate was. Nobody did. Draco's soul mate was on the run from the law.

The only reason Draco even knew what the man looked like was because he'd seen the photo in the Daily Prophet.

A few seconds ago.

That was when the inner turmoil had begun.

Draco stared at the paper. There was a headline, in large bold letters, followed by more text in smaller print.

Draco didn't see all that. His eyes had settled on the picture, on the gaunt, hollow-cheeked face of Sirius Black.

His head spun.

He felt dizzy.

He was about to faint, he realised, slightly embarrassed.

His head hit the floor with a thud.

When he came to, his father was leaning over him, a concerned frown on her pretty face.

"What happened?" he asked.

"It was..." Draco wasn't sure how to explain, especially not to his father. "It was... I saw – in the – the paper." He waved his hand vaguely in the direction of the paper. "He... I don't know why!" Draco finally burst out. "He's not even good-looking! He's all sunken, and haunted, and hollow!"

"Calm down," Lucius said soothingly.

He waited.

When Draco was calm again, Lucius said, "Go on."

"I just saw him, and... it's like... he – I. I don't know! How can I love him?"

Finally, Lucius understood. "There's something I should have told you years ago, Draco."

There was a dramatic pause.

Then he continued.

"Sirius is your mate."

Draco shook his head slightly. "Mate?"

"You are half-Veela, Draco."

"How?" Draco asked.

"Through me. I am a Veela."

"But – but... I thought Veela were only female."

There was a smile on his father's face as he said, "Yes Draco."

Go on, review, you know you want to.
