Chapter One

Namine stepped off the camp bus and into the sunlight. She did admit; it was her first time being at any kind of summer camp, and she was a bit nervous.

Summer camp wasn't her fist choice. She had hoped to spend the summer on the beach with her friends, but Kairi and Riku had summer school. Everyone else had already made plans for the summer, leaving poor Namine to spend her summer alone.

It was a lot bigger than she imagined. Not at all like an ordinary camp. Like the ones out in the middle of woods. This was a water sports camp surrounded by a thick tropical forest. On all sides were thickets of tall palms, fern trees, and flowers of all colors.

In the center of the camp was an enormous lake where all the water activities were held.

Namine had never played any water sports. She wasn't the best athlete either. She had tried out for her school Volleyball team last year, but it didn't last long. Her reflexes were terrible, but she would try to make the best of it.

Looking on the bright side, she wouldn't be alone. Sora's parents had sent him to the same camp this summer. Namine was surprised to see him when he stepped onto the camp bus with that goofy grin. She was so relived to not be alone.

Of course, Sora was so excited.
When they climbed off the camp bus, he was so crazed. Namine thought he was going to burst out of his clothes and go running into the lake.
Sora liked camp. He liked sports and the outdoors. He liked just about everything and everyone.

And everyone always liked Sora. He's so enthusiastic. Sora was tall. He had spikey brown hair and bright blue eyes.

He had sat next to Namine on the bus. He kept asking everyone if the camp had a high diving board over the lake.

Namine had stared out of the window, watching the endless blur of palms as they drifted further and further from their island and the sunny beach.

Kids pulled their bags off the bus. Laughing and joking. Counselors in dark blue T-shirts greeted everyone, pointing them in the right direction.
Sora made three or four good friends on the bus ride to camp.

Everyone thought he was so much fun, Namine thought.

Namine liked to have fun too, but she was so shy and quiet most of the time. Nobody paid her any attention at school. Most of time, Namine was alone with her sketch pad. She did admit she had trouble making friends. Sometimes she wondered if she even knew how to makes friends.

Namine wasn't very tall. She was thin and frail with blue eyes and golden blond hair that fell lightly over her shoulders.

"This is going to be awesome!" Sora declared. Dragging his duffel bag, he hurried off to find his cabin.
Namine smiled. "I hope so," She muttered, pulling her backpack over her shoulder. The bright sun was already making her sweat.

Tropical Birds chirped loudly through the thicket of Palms.

She began to cheer up a little bit.

Maybe I will make some new friends, she thought. Maybe she'd meet some kids who are a lot like her-and they'd have a great summer.

The hot sandy ground made it hard to walk in sandals, but she managed to make it to her Cabin. It had been made from palm logs. Large green palm leaves had been placed over each other to make a roof.
When Namine stepped into her cabin. She saw her three roommates,
And let out a cry. "Oh, no!"
