Moonlady
"You're so bad…" Korra didn't know if she was out of breath from laughing so hard or that they rolled down the hill together.
Fortunately, neither of them weren't too hurt. A little bruising here and there, but they were used to it from bending matches together.
Tarrlok brushed a lock of hair out of her face. "You pushed me first, didn't you?"
Korra placed a hand on his face. "But you dragged me down with you, like you always do."
"I held onto you for balance."
"If I go down, you always go down with me, is that clear?"
And when she was down, he was always going to bring her back up.
He smiled, "yes, my Moonlady."
She placed herself over his chest, feeling the beat of his heart.
Tonight was so perfect.
The spring evening air, the wind blowing through the trees. Out so far in the Earth Kingdom country side where no one knew where they were made them feel like they were the only two people in the world.
The smile from Korra's face disappeared. "My parents made it safely back to the South Pole."
"I'm glad."
"I still haven't told them yet. About us."
Silence. "You still haven't told them about us…?"
"No… I haven't."
Tarrlok moved his torso, sitting upright from the grass. "Spirits, Korra…"
"I was gonna tell them, I was, but I couldn't find the right time."
"It's a miracle no one has figured out by now that we're together, but it's been what? Almost four months, and you still want us to be in secret?"
"I just don't know if the world's ready for us, you know how public our lives are."
He got up from the grass. "Don't give me that. Don't use that card and tell me everything's fine. So, what, you're ashamed of me?"
Her eyes widen. "No, Tarrlok, how could you even say that, I'd never be ashamed of you…"
"You're so scared of telling your parents about us, you haven't even told Asami yet, Asami…! Yeah, sure finding a place to kiss or meeting up where nobody can find us was great, hot even, but now."
He stood firm. "I want to take you out. Show you off and tell people, 'hey, look, this is my girlfriend, I'm so proud of her.' Do you have any idea how many times I wanted to do that? I didn't want to be with you because you were the Avatar, I started to fall for you for you."
Tears flowed down her face.
He continued. "From now on, what we have with each other is strictly professional."
"Tarrlok…"
"Don't smile at me, don't wink at me, and I'm 'Councilman' to you from now on."
"Tarrlok, no…! Don't do this… Please."
She stood in front of him so he wouldn't leave. "Tarrlok… Don't make me be alone again."
He placed a hand on her wrist. "Goodbye… Avatar Korra."
The first few steps as he walked away were the heaviest ones he took.
'You'll always be my Moonlady…'
