Annabeth POV

"Did it…we…" I trailed off as I slumped my head against the back of my hippocampus. I was completely exhausted. We had actually managed to find Polyphemus, retrieve the Golden Fleece, save Grover, and manage to stay alive! It was a miracle that I was even here, covered by the Fleece, which was surprisingly warm, and feeling Percy's hands on my waist. Just knowing that he was holding me while I rode the hippocampus made my stomach have butterflies in it, especially after what the Sirens had shown me. I was content to just lie their and sleep, but the Fleece seemed to have made me alert, for while I completely collapsed on the animal, I was wide awake. However, I must've appeared asleep because Percy brushed some hair back from my ear and leaned down to whisper something.

"You're a genius," he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. With that, he settled down against the part of the Fleece that was covering my shoulder and fell asleep. Within minutes, he was snoring.

I felt a blush rise in my cheeks and a smile creep on my face. My head was facing Grover, who was dead asleep on his own hippocampus. This meant that no one would be able to see what I was about to do next.

Very carefully, I turned around to see that Clarisse and Tyson were also both passed out. Huh. This Fleece must be a real energizer. I looked back at Percy to see that he'd fallen asleep with a smile on his face. I brushed back his hair with my hand and smiled down at him. Then, before I could change my mind, I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. He simply smiled a bit wider and snored away. I wondered if that had by any chance incorporated into his sleep.

I then took one of his hands from my waist and held it tightly. I put it up to the front of the hippocampus and laid my head down on our entwined hands. I would fall asleep, content this way, and if anyone questioned our hand placement, I'd blame it on my subconscious sleep. After all, he could've sworn I was dead asleep when he fell asleep. I closed my eyes, let out a contented sigh, and fell asleep with his hand entwined in mine.
