After the cheers and the yells and the exclamations of pain from the Final Battle, there was quiet. A long, steady, seemingly never ending quiet, broken only by muffled conversation and occasional calls of greeting and relief.

Deep in the crowd gathered in the Great Hall were two students. Two students that had just become heroes, whether they liked It or not. Two students that shared mutual feelings, but had not yet acted on them. Two students that were perfect for each other.

Neville Longbottom sat alone, never speaking aside from to thank those coming to congratulate him, to distil the thanks given to him. For he was deep in thought, thinking of that perfect girl he had loved for 3 years, that perfect girl who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. In one fluid motion, Neville rose to his feet, sending a sweeping glance around the Hall.

And in a second, he saw her. Her platinum blonde hair stood out strongly even in the crowds; her radish earrings hung by her face as she chatted to her fellow Ravenclaws, no doubt telling them stories of fantastical creatures that she truly believed existed; sharing tales of exhibitions she had been on with her father. And then, in one fleeting moment, she caught Neville's eye.

Neville, his courage accumulating from this small gesture, made his way over to Luna Lovegood, shoving his way through the crowd, smiling at those he recognised. Finally, after a few struggles, he reached her. They simply stood staring at each other for a full minute, before Luna acted.

Neville was taken aback by the softness of her lips on his, by the perfect shape they formed, the gentle way they moved with his. After a second's surprise, he wrapped his arms gently around her waist, pulling her towards him, then, once his air supply had run dry, he pulled away, staring into her eyes.

Luna spoke first, her voice soft and dream-like, as it always was. "Neville… you were so brave."

Neville's cheeks flushed; the only time they had done so after being complimented. He grinned down at her, pushing her hair out of her face gently. "It was nothing, really." His tone was teasing, but it grew serious once more as he continued. "What are you going to do now? Are you going to stay on at Hogwarts?"

Luna shook her head, and her gaze slipped to a far-off place. "No. I'm going to go searching for Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. I've always wanted to see one."

Neville smiled down at her, taking her hand and squeezing it gently. "Great. I'll come with you."
