AN oh dear, seems I've been pulled into the megalith that is the harry potter fandom, no matter, this one begins with a prologue set in 1987, during the first war with voldemort and then moves to Harry's fifth year, just so you now
Harry Potter and the Difference Engine
"I hope this actually does something, you know I have an extremely busy schedule" Snape's cold and collected voice was the only sound in the isolated building, except for the occasional grunt from the technicians and albus's breathing.
"give me some quiet and it might, severus" the tone was dangerous, but after five minutes he and the rest of the technicians stepped back to reveal a fairly large cylinder, hooked up by various wires to several computers stationed around the room, it was brushed chrome and hid the myriad of technological wonders inside the cylinder, the head technician turned to the others and nodded, come of them went to the computers and booted them up, while others suited up in hazmat suits, soon all was silent except for the whirring and moaning of the computers as complicated algorithms and programs were executed.
Finally they got green lights and they all moved back into the observation pod, located to give a full view of the experiment, finally with everything set, the head technician turned to Albus and Snape
"what you see here, gentlemen, is the future, and the perfect way to protect people from voldemort, full scale models could move entire cities or even countries at a time, gentlemen, I give you the difference engine" the head technician depressed the single green button, which sealed the internal pressure doors and prepped the fire control systems, then with everything ready the difference engine warmed up, at first it emitted a quiet moan, but within the minute it was a deafening groan and in a flash of light it moved the cup of water from the table on the right to the table on the left. With the task complete the engine stopped moaning and began the cool-down phase, everyone in the room looked slightly shocked, even the chief engineer, at what had just taken place, silence reined until Dumbledore broke it
"well, Director, you may have just re-invented techno-magic, again" and the chief engineer smiled
"just doing my job, sir"
AN very very short, I know that, don't worry though, they will get longer, much, much longer (oh boy). I need reviews people, good? Bad? Too early to say?
