ASHLEY'S P.O.V
I gave up the right to be here a long time ago.
But I have to know she's okay.
FLASHBACK
"You what?"
"I agreed to be the special guest at next weekends US Open surf carnival..."
"Okay"
If I was her I'd be surprised as well.
"Maddy I miss her"
"I know you do, but wouldn't calling her be easier?"
It's complicated.
"Maddy I've been trying to convince myself to get in touch with her for a really long time now, but it hasn't happened…"
I need to see her.
"So I signed that contract because it guarantees it happens…"
It makes sense in my head.
"Anyway I'm going to go shower and then we can get out of here"
END FLASHBACK
"Are you okay?"
"Is she okay?"
I'm going crazy sitting out here.
"Go in there Ashley..."
"Maddy I haven't seen her in over a year and you want me to just walk in there like nothing's happened?"
I need to leave.
I shouldn't have come here.
"I'm just going to go..."
When I try to stand up she stops me.
"Ashley what is there to lose?"
I don't know, but it seems like a lot.
"This is why you're here, right?"
The circumstances have changed.
"Maddy just leave it..."
"No"
She can be really annoying sometimes.
"Forget everything that just happened..."
"Maddy she could have died"
"That's even more reason to go in there"
I don't know.
"Maddy..."
"Ashley just go in there"
This sucks.
"If it doesn't go how you want it go, just walk away"
She makes it sound so simple.
"But you have to go in there Ash or all this will have been for nothing"
FLASHBACK
"Morning"
She's holding a tray.
"You made me breakfast?"
"No…"
I love her smile.
"But I picked it up from the store and I'm delivering it to you in bed"
That works.
"How was your surf?"
"It was good, but last night was… Wow"
When she brushes her lips over mine I smile.
"Ashley I'm not sure where last night came from, but I'm glad it came…"
"Spence was that a dirty pun"
I can't help myself.
"It can be whatever you want it to be"
END FLASHBACK
"Ashley?"
"Hi..."
My heart's racing.
"Are you okay?"
Her arm's in a sling.
"Yer I ahh... I'm fine"
When she says that I walk over to where she's lying.
"Sorry Ashley I'm just surprised..."
"I miss you Spencer"
There's no use beating around the bush.
"I've been living on the road the last year and a bit and every time I come back to this city it reminds me of you, of us"
Her face is blank.
"I..."
I can't remember ever being this nervous before.
"Spencer hardly seeing you was so much easier than never seeing you at all"
My hand's are sweating.
"I love..."
"Spencer are you okay?"
When she rushes into the tent I step back.
"I..."
I know that look she's giving me and I hate it.
"Leah I'm fine"
When the girl kisses her I look away.
"I'm just going to go..."
"Ashley"
"I'm really glad you're okay Spencer"
When I leave I don't look back.
Coming here was a bad idea.
FLASHBACK
"I LOVE YOU"
This place is packed and the music's blaring, but I'm pretty sure I heard that right.
"Spence did I hear that right?"
"I love you"
Suddenly I can hear her so clearly.
"Look you don't have to say it back, but I do Ashley... I love you"
"I love you too"
I have the biggest smile on my face.
"Spence I've been trying to find the right time to tell you..."
"Sorry I know a house party isn't exactly ideal, but I kind of liked knowing I could blame me being drunk, if you didn't say it back"
When she says that I laugh.
"Spencer your plan was flawless"
When I lean forward she meets me halfway.
I've never cared about someone as much as I care about her.
She's my best friend, my girlfriend, the first girl I've ever loved.
"Do you want to get out of here?"
She's smiling.
"Yer, let's go"
END FLASHBACK
"That was quick..."
"Maddy let's just go"
"Woah, woah, woah"
When she stops me I bite down on my bottom lip.
"She's with someone else"
