I do not own Teen Titans, I merely wished that they had told us WHY Terra was being mysterious...so I just decided to create a fanfic, of how I imagined it. One-shot! :D. Enjoy!
"Terra!"
I hesitated for a minute. His voice sounded so hurt, so betrayed, I almost crumbled in my resolve.
"Terra! At least tell me why you're ignoring me."
He turned into a puppy, trying to make me smile. I almost did, until I remembered what I promised myself. I scowled and turned away, and I could hear his voice break.
"That always worked," he said softly.
"I have to go." I snapped, wanting to get away. Of course I still wanted to be friends, but I can't be friends with him without being pulled back into that world.
Something came into his voice, something steely and cold. "I get it. You're just trying to run away from your problems. The Terra I knew wouldn't have done that. The Terra I knew would have faced whatever bad guys threw at her, because she was brave and heroic. I guess you're right. Things change."
Anger and resentment bubbled up inside me. Without knowing what I was doing, I whirled around to face him.
"The Terra you knew isn't here! She's gone!" I yelled. Taking a deep breath, I tried to control my anger.
"She's still here somewhere," he replied. I saw that glint in his eye, that stupid, endearing stubbornness that said he wasn't going to give up.
"She's underground." I said softly, to myself. "Beast Boy, you have to understand. The Terra you thought you knew wasn't the hero that she pretended to be. She was a spy, she was dangerous, and you know it."
"And you turned it around! You saved us!"
"If it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have been in that stupid cave in the first place! Please, just go away." I avoided looking straight into his eyes.
"At least tell me why you want me to I'm not leaving until you do. I mean it!"
"Who do you think Terra was?" I asked carefully.
"She was an extraordinary girl, willing to make sacrifices," he said, without a moment of hesitation.
"You're wrong. Terra was a girl with special powers. Her powers were extraordinary, not her. And when she made that sacrifice, she used up the last of her gift, and she wasn't extraordinary anymore."
His eyes widened.
"You mean...I'm so sorry, Terra."
"Don't be, Beast Boy. Maybe I am running away from my past, but I don't care. I don't want to be a villain anymore. And I'm happy. I never had a normal life. Now..." I gestured to my school. "All I have to worry about is grades and what people think of me. I can't be friends with you, not with being pulled back into the world of monsters and schemes. I know myself. I had enough strength to turn away from the evil side the last time, but there's something inside me, something greedy and grasping, and I don't know if I can stop myself again."
Beast Boy's lip trembled. "I understand. But I'll always be there for you, Terra. Even if you don't want me to be."
"I'll miss you, BB." I half laughed.
"I'll miss you, Terra."
"Dawn." I corrected.
"Right, Dawn."
We stood there for a minute, and then he hugged me. "Goodbye, Dawn."
"Goodbye, Beast Boy."
As he walked away, I felt a thousand times lighter.
