The first time it was Gillian that called him. It'd taken him a few minutes but he'd figured out that she was at a bar and was too drunk to drive home. He'd gotten the address and had gotten there about 20 minutes later. She could barely walk unsupported. He'd taken her home and wished her good night after walking her to her door.
Two months later it happened again. Once again Gillian called. When he reached the bar it was the same bartender that had been there last time so he was able to tell him that she'd been in almost every week and every time another guy had picked her up. From the description he worked out that it had been her husband picking her up. This time he gave the bartender his number with instructions to call him next time she was in. He remembered the bruises that she'd been covering up lately, almost every Monday. Once again he took her home and wished her good night.
The bartender called him every week from then on. For four months it went on until one day Torres told him that she'd found Gillian crying in the bathroom the previous day and again in her office that morning. After work that night he went straight to the bar knowing she'd be there. He found her on her third drink. Not a word was spoken until finally she broke the silence.
"He's been cheating on me," she confided softly. "I'm filing for divorce in the morning." He rested a hand lightly on her shoulder.
"I know," he told her softly. "Let's get you home."
Cal Lightman was an expert on micro-expressions but you didn't need to be an expert to know that Gillian Foster was self-destructing. He'd been there and she'd been there for him. Now it was his turn.
A/N: Don't ask where this came from. I have no idea. Please review
