You didn't believe she could look beyond the personal, into the professional, for the right point with such an accuracy. Even if you had experienced it directed to yourself, that belief of hers on another persons expertise. Tag for 2x07.
Professional idiot
You are an idiot.
A rookie was being more professional. A troubled, pained, mortified rookie. You are being outdone by McNally.
She almost died and it was all your fault. For not believing in her ability to stay professional. For being less than her. What's worse, it had happened before, and you had not learned the lesson. You are back again to retraining day, throwing a hissy fit and discounting her. You should know better by now. You know better. Still let your temper run away from you, and failed her. Left her hanging. Alone. Again. Damn it.
You knew she could work through personal issues. Painfully first hand. She had proved it during the abduction case. You both felt uncomfortable, confused, cheated, insulted and angry on the aftermath of the blackout. She was a rookie, and so you had taught, told, her, to leave personal issues aside and WORK with him. Had to call her onto the plate, but she had dealt, and even backed you up, believed in you, when the going got tough.
Absolute irony. You had already failed on that account just a weeks previously, during retraining. But hey, do as I say, not as I do, right?.
So then, there she was, floating the cheating bastards theories, and you though it was out of held feelings, and you felt hurt, you felt cheated, and angry. For her. You thought she was in denial, that she was trying to make as it had not happened, and this dogged pursuit was a misguided way of compensating. You thought she was being an idiot.
And it's back on you of course. You are an idiot. Because never, ever, did you stop a second to consider what she'd actually said as the honest truth. You didn't believe that she could look beyond the personal, and into the professional, for the right point with such an accuracy. Even if you had experienced it directed to yourself, that belief of hers on another persons expertise no matter the interfering issues.
You blew her on the Bibby mess because your pride was wounded. And then she still went with your hunch on the missing girls mom. And now she believed Callahan on the keepsake collection. And you blew her. Because you felt hurt (and how sissy was that, that he played the injured party). And she was right that Callahan was right. Just as she was right that you were right on the mom. And she could see it despite being hurt. By both of you.
So you are an idiot. Because Andy, a rookie, could have faith in Callahans theories, but you couldn't have faith in your partners professionalism. She had almost died. On your lack of faith. On your lack of professionalism.
You need a new epithet. Idiot is not low enough today. You made a career of it today.
AN: Just got stuck on how Sam would think of it all afterwards. His reaction was expected, but he still dropped the ball on it. BTW, is anyone writing on the HUGE idiot ball Luke was carrying, when in three years of working the case, it never occurred to him to look for storage units?.
