Making her way into the hallway Helen passed a mirror and stopped in order to study her reflection. Even after all these years she still could hardly believe the face staring back at her; unchanged and ageless.

"Oh Helen, why us?" She said out loud touching her face, angling it this way and that to get a better look at herself.

Sighing she turned away and started toward the kitchen. Without knowing why she started to trail her fingers along the wall, taking slow steps. This really was a sanctuary, for her as well as her many inhabitants. If walls could talk they would certainly tell a fantastic tale. At least they wouldn't age and disappear as if only a memory and in that Helen found solace.

When all else fell away in time these stone walls and floors would remain.
