Author's Note: So, I had to rewrite the epilogue for The Angel Experiment for my Language Arts class last month, and it's been laying g around for about a week. I was going to throw it out when I decided, hey, why not post this up on FanFiction?

And so, my itty-bitty baby one-shot was born.

Six in the morning. Sunset behind you. Family all around. Flying, with your own wings, fifteen-hundred feet in the air. Put it all together, and you have the most amazing feeling in the world. It's an experience worth dreaming about— and it's my reality.

Ignore the fact that I'm a genetically-modified mutant freak on the run from insane psychopaths that want to kill me and my family, and it's a pretty much the perfect life. Since I've never really been good at turning the other cheek, I guess I just have to settle for a perfect moment.

I stared down at the ground, squinting to make the little ants show their true forms: cars. How little they seemed from up here almost made me smile. It really put things into perspective to look at them from, no pun intended, a bird's-eye view.

I directed my gaze upwards again, looking around at the flock. They were all beaming, even Max. Their happiness was enough to finally force my outer shell open and make me crack a grin.

Angel's stupid dog caught my eye, his dark fur greatly contrasting against her fair skin, blonde hair, and light pink jacket. His face was raised up towards the sun, and he seemed to really enjoy being up here with us. I felt a small pang of regret about letting her keep it. The dog probably wouldn't be with us for much longer. Sooner or later (probably sooner), it would either get killed in a fight, dropped from the sky, starve to death, or get tied up to a post when we couldn't take care of it. Either way wouldn't be fair to it or to Angel, but she had given me Bambi eyes...

My gaze fell back to Max, but only a second. She shot me a grin, and I could feel my heart skip a beat as I radiated with joy.

What the hell is wrong with me?

My eyes bounced from Iggy to Nudge to Gazzy to Angel to the friggen dog to Max for a millisecond to the drivers of New Jersey. I banished all feelings from my mind. Next to leave were all thoughts of the flock's inevitable devastation once we got to Washington D.C., our next destination. Ignoring thoughts of family reunions and heartbreaks and possible separation and the moment that could define your entire future isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, but I managed.

I heard Max sigh and glanced over, studying her face. She was muttering to herself, probably talking to the so-called 'Voice' that she had recently acquired.

I was debating whether or not to ship her to an insane asylum when she caught a thermal and coasted through the air, genuinely smiling for one of the first times since the Erasers had kidnapped our Angel.

Maybe next time, I decided as I soared over to join her.
