Day 1 of my Christmas ficlet series. Disclaimer: I own nothing.

He was still standing by the window, staring out at something that Dean hadn't had the urge to get up and look at just yet. But It almost seemed like Cas was waiting for something to happen.

Dean went to look back at the TV, his hand clenching around his beer as he realized that in the 5 seconds he hadn't been paying attention his team had fallen behind.

A light gasp came from the window caught his attention, and he looked over to find Cas smiling softly, his bright blue eyes almost childlike.

"See something you like out there?" Dean questioned.

He didn't get a verbal answer just a flick of the wrist, beckoning him to come.

He reached Cas, standing behind him, resting his chin upon Cas's shoulder lightly placing a kiss on his neck, and gently placed his hands on his hips.

"Is this what you've been standing in front of this window all day for, the first snow of the season?"

"Yes", the reply so soft Dean had to strain to hear it and he was just inches from Cas's mouth.

"I'm getting the feeling there's more to this than just the thrill of the first snow of the season…" Dean trailed off, leaving it open for Cas to share.

Cas looked at him quickly, the soft smile still on his face but the sad look in his eyes made Dean frown.

"Let's go for a walk," Cas suggested, gently brushing his hand across Dean's cheek as he stepped away from him.

Dean grimaced at the idea of leaving the warm house, their warm house, but nodded anyways grabbing his jacket and scarf before opening the door and walking out after Cas.

They walked in comfortable silence for a few moments, Dean smiling as Cas held his hand out in front of him catching the snowflakes in his hand the smile from before still on his face.

Dean looked down as Cas slid his hand into his own and squeezed tightly.

"Do you know how snow got its name?" Cas questioned softly.

Dean shook his head, his eyes never leaving their joined hands as he lightly ran his hand over the back of Cas's.

"I was very young at the time, it was during the time when all you had to worry about was if Gabriel was waiting around the corner to trip you…."

Dean smiled softly as Cas became lost in his story, a story of happier times in Heaven.
