A/N: Hi! *waves* I'm new to the fandom that is Veronica Mars – can you tell? - but I like it here. Except for this whole "LoVe" thing. What the crap kind of a couple name is THAT? Spuffy, now THAT'S a couple name. Sorry. I've spent the last few years immersed in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and wrote almost nothing else. It's kind of funny how different fandoms develop things differently. Anyway. This takes place somewhere between when they found out whodunnit on Lilly's murder case and that summer, which means that GUESS WHO is still together. That's right – Logan and Veronica! (I refuse to call them LoVe. To me, they're Veronica and Logan. Deal.)
O.C.: Be forewarned: the main character is an original character. I like her, though, and I think you'll like her, too. She's pretty... well, interesting for this 'verse.
Cannon (that's what we call it in Buffyland. Not sure if that's how it is here, too): We now live in a wonderful world in which Meg Manning does not exist, for all intents and purposes. It's not that I hate Meg or anything, even though I do, very much, it's just that she can't really be here. We do have Shelley Pomroy, though. Hope that makes up for it. Also, Weevil freaking sits at Veronica and Wallace's table. So does Mac.
New Girl: Chapter One
Alyssa strode down the hallway, beads jingling around her neck. That morning, she'd allowed her hair to dry naturally, giving it a little more "oomph!" than it usually had. She wore a denim vest over a dark green half-length-sleeved shirt, with some of the first pairs of skinny jeans ever to grace the town of Neptune. On her feet were tan gladiator sandals, taking away from the slightly-country look the rest of her outfit gave.
As she walked, guys stared at her. The girls all looked at her enviously, jealously burning in their eyes. Alyssa smiled to herself.
Alyssa had memorized her locker number, combo, and her schedule in the car that morning before she'd left. The only people caught checking a map in the hallway were the ones automatically labeled either dorks or desperate to meet a guy, neither of which Alyssa was. She absolutely oozed confidence out of her every pore.
207. 206. 205. 204. Here.
"Hey," she greeted the girl at the locker next to hers.
She was a blond, which worked out well. Alyssa's own hair was a rich chestnut brown, and it made her look a lot better when there were some contrasting colors around her.
"Hey," the girl replied, glancing up. There was no trace of anything abnormal in her expression. Which, when it came to people seeing Alyssa for the first time, was abnormal in itself. Alyssa kept waiting for the double take to come. When it never did, she immediately made a decision.
This girl would have to become Alyssa's friend.
"I'm Alyssa Kane."
"Veronica."
Alyssa then did the double-take that should have been Veronica's. "Veronica Mars? I haven't see you since..."
"Ever." Veronica supplied. "We've never met. Lilly used to talk about you though, sometimes. On occasion."
"Really? She talked about you all the time when I saw her."
"That's cool. Oh, my God, Wallace! I have to tell you what happened with this bail jumper this weekend..."
Veronica walked off down the hall with another kid after shutting her locker. Tears stung in Alyssa's eyes. She'd never been snubbed before.
Across the hallway, Alyssa could hear a group talking. "God. Veronica's nuts. Doesn't she know how much it would up her if she were friends with that girl?"
Alyssa smiled a little to herself.
She still had it.
