Gundam Wing – "A Day in the Life"
It was raining. It was raining freaking buckets and he still had eight miles to go in order to get back to his Gundam. Even better, it was dark out and the moonlight he'd been counting on was covered by the stupid rain clouds. Those two combined was a big inconvenience, but he could still rough it. Hell, he'd been through worse and this was just a hike through some soggy, dark woods.
Those were Duo's thoughts up until the mudslide. The hillside looked innocent enough — trees were sparse but there, and the ground seemed firm — but even firm ground couldn't take a giant mobile suit landing on it without some damage. "Holy shi—"
There was no way he could move fast enough to avoid the giant wave of mud coming straight at him. All he could do was turn away from the wave and crouch in on himself in hopes his curved body would create an air pocket so he could breath until he either rescued himself or someone found him. It probably wouldn't work, but there was nothing else to do.
Duo turned and crouched, bracing himself for an impact that never came. Something thudded behind him and when Duo opened his eyes to figure out what had happened he saw a river of mud flowing past him all around, though he remained in the clear. Turning around got him face to face with a large mechanical hand. Though the rain obscured his vision, there was no mistaking that particular Mobile Suit. "Oooooooi, Heero! Thanks!" he called out, though more then likely the pilot wouldn't be able to hear him in the storm. Duo also put aside the fact that Heero landing his Gundam had caused the mudslide to begin with.
Without a word, Heero opened up his cockpit and set down a ladder for Duo to join him. Not one to refuse such an offer, the pilot of Deathscythe hopped up and settled himself as best he could in the cockpit made for one. "Thanks for picking me up, Heero. It would have taken me forever to get to my Gundam at the rate I was going."
"Hn. Give me the coordinates and I'll take you there. I assume you're ready for the mission?" Cold as always — not even an apology for almost killing his fellow pilot — Heero spoke without looking at Duo. Used to it, the braided man just shrugged and spouted off the coordinates of his Deathscythe.
"So, we blast in, you take out the left wing while I handle the right, then I go to the hangar and sabotage the mobile suits while you're out there distracting any soldiers who are still alive. That about cover it?"
They'd made it to Deathscythe's location in the time Duo had been going over the mission specs. Heero confirmed Duo's rather un-technical explanation and dropped him off. The mission began and was completed without a hitch, both Gundams working in sync to accomplish their goal. Not a word was spoken between the pilots during the mission (though Duo did taunt their opponents quite often), and at the end when they were to split up, Heero gave Duo a curt nod of approval before turning off the video feed and flying away to his next destination.
Duo laughed. "Pleasure working with you too!" he said to an empty communication screen before making his own escape. Some days it was good to be a Gundam pilot.
