He had known the girl for over a year now. They embraced each other like there was no tomorrow. She was the Gwen to his Duncan. Which is why he wouldn't stand for it when she was down-more than usual. What could be the culprit, one might ask. Simple, her birthday.
She never wanted to do anything on her birthday. Not even go to a bonfire with their fellow goths. What could make someone this gloomy on their birthday?
"Her pet rat, Kaden, died a few days before her 12th birthday." Crimson's mother asked when Ennui worked up the twenty seconds of courage to ask.
"How did Kaden die?" He asked.
"On her way back from show and tell, Crimson was approached by a rabid dog. Kaden jumped out her bag to save her and that cost him his life." Crimson's mother answered.
What a dark and honorable way to die. Ennui thought about how he would've slightly enjoyed the sight. Still, though, he knew what had to be done.

Ennui placed a portrait of Kaden that he got from Crimson's mother on the floor. "Too bad she didn't have the mangled, disembodied version."
He glanced around his attic, until he found a small rock heavy enough to place on the picture to keep it from blowing away. Next, he pulled out eight candles from his pocket and placed them around the portrait into a circle. Once the candles were lit, he pulled out an ancient pamphlet.
A rough breeze wrapped around Ennui. The candles in front of him wavered, but didn't blow out. On the pamphlet was Hades, god of the underworld.
"This wouldn't be the first time I tried summoning something from a pamphlet. So here goes nothing." Ennui took a deep breath as he skimmed through the written incantation. "God of the Underworld, RISE!" He pulled out a yellow sheet. "Anodos apo ton Adi kai ginei dekto to aitima mou!" He yelled from latin tongue.
The world burned in a red light, Ennui's eyes burned; he was enjoying each second. His vision cleared and everything was silent. Until he heard the explosion right in front of him. He showed no emotion, but if he could, he would be in shock and excitement.
The god of the underworld, Hades stood in front of him. "Why have you summoned me mortal?"
Knowing it would be best not to keep a god waiting. Ennui immediately replied, "Hades, I wish for you restore the life of the rat known as Kaden."
Hades remained silent for a moment. "This can be done, but you'll have to pay a price."
"What is it?"
"Your soul."
Silence.

Crimson found it enjoyable that her birthday was on a Sunday. She didn't have the energy to put up with school today. So, she would stay in her room all day and wouldn't be disturbed.
When she heard a knock at the door, she ignored it. She was slightly annoyed because she specifically told her mother not to let anyone in. That woman would get hers someday.
She hoped that whoever was at the door would go away, though, they didn't. She finally got the energy, walked up and opened the door.
"Crimson?" Said person was surprised to see her boyfriend here. With a box...no that was normal.
"Ennui?" She blinked
"What are you doing here?"
"I have a present for you." Ennui opened the box. Coming out was Crimson's supposed to be dead rat, Kaden.
Crimson was lost for words. It took her literal minutes before she could comprehend the moment. "K-Kaden, but how?"
"You can thank Hades for that part." Ennui answered. "All I had to do was sell my soul."
Crimson gasped lowly. "You would sell your soul for me?"
"I would sell my life for you."
For the first time, in a long time, she was happy and wasn't afraid to admit it. If someone would give up their soul just to bring her long dead rat back. Then they were truly bound together forever.
"Don't get too happy now." Ennui said. " It could be permanent."

A/N: This idea came and I felt like writing it. Sorry if Crimson and Ennui were out of character. I felt like I was writing Ennui too dark and Crimson not dark enough.
