I'm not really sure how to explain how this came up. Other than I was thinking about the story from Nitlon called Rain Shadow and the thoughts about how Riku feels when he sees a dead moth. I felt bad when the moth died, and later on killed. So I think that's how this came up while I was just thinking about it. Enjoy :D
"Talking."
'Thinking.'
Noises and such.
Disclaimer: I own the plot and words written in this story, but inspiration of the moths came from Nitlon.
There was just something sad about something that was dead, besides the point that it was so. Like the fact that what once was living would never be able to move about again, doomed to decompose into smaller and smaller particles. Or have the carcass eaten by something looking for a meal. But that was life, wasn't it? Lives are born, and those same lives all eventually die. No one person lives forever. They have a span, an unspecified amount of time to live, and then eventually they go back and turn, or contract really, into nothing.
Only the tales of legends live forever.
That's what ran through Riku Takashi's head as he stared uselessly out of the classroom window, watching as a robin caught a moth in mid-flight, and continued flying on. Once something was dead that was just it. No more anything for it. It can't come back to what it was.
He wasn't interested in what the teacher had to say. Didn't care. Didn't want to know. So thus he took to window watching.
Today was dull as far as dull days go. Everything from the plants to the atmosphere seemed like it wasn't up to being full of life. The sky was a wonderful tickle-me-silly gray, with darker patches of I-really-don't-care-to-be-here-right-now black speckled throughout. So most likely it was going to rain before class was over, so there weren't as many birds hanging around the school because of the ridiculous lack of trees they had. So everything was just lacking life today.
Riku didn't know how much more dullness he could take… until Sora decided to break into his reverie with something odd to say.
"Hey Riku, did you know that your tongue has white on it that it's actually a film of bacteria? And if it's pink that means you're germ free." And Sora looked at Riku, like he was expecting an answer. Riku turned his eyes first, and then let his head follow the movement until he was staring at Sora with an eyebrow raised in question.
"… And you decided to share that with me because?" Sora ignored (not really) Riku's antagonistic tone and stuck his tongue out in mock retaliation.
"Becauseee," Sora emphasized, rolling his eyes, "I care about my friends health, thank you very much."
As much as Sora sometimes got on his nerves, purposefully to be sure, Riku couldn't help but be content with that fact that Sora was his friend and would most likely always remain so. Even though Riku was sometimes so deep in his own thoughts that Sora would start making fun of him and continue until the silveret was snapped out of his reserve and giving Sora a blank stare. Which always ended with the latter laughing and/or giggling madly, and Riku with a faint blush of embarrassment on his face.
But that's what friends were for. Disrupting deep thoughts with playful useless facts. And that was fine with Riku.
So that's it folks. Very short. Didn't really cover anything extensive, but then again I'm in a bit of a block so what can I say? Hope whoever read this enjoyed and if not, well... I don't know. Give yourself a cookie or something.........
I need some sleep.
