I sat down on the steps of the nearest business and cried. The owner got angry that I was driving away business and said I needed to leave. I stood up and walked away into the sunshine of New York City. I walked into my apartment building. It was falling apart at its seams. I unlocked my door and entered into my apartment. The rent was due the next day, but I couldn't pay it. The reasons? My mom got shot two days earlier and I didn't have a job. My dad had been out of the picture since before I was born. I collapsed on the sofa and fell asleep, wishing. Wishing for a second chance.

I walked up to the school. My new "home" was a homeless shelter down the street. As I walked up the sidewalk, some kids were laughing and seemed like they were having the time of their lives. I walked up to them and smiled.

"Oh, hey." A girl said. She was latina. I think her name was Ava, or something like that.

" 'Sup?" The kid across from me said. I knew it was a guy named Luke.

"Hello." Another kid named Danny said.

"Ugh, who are you?" The kid to me right said.

"Don't mind Sam. He's just a little grouchy." Peter said.

"Oh, okay. Hey." I managed a smile. I let my face show my worry.

"What's wrong?" Peter said.

"It's just I can't pay the rent." I stopped to try to get control of myself. It didn't work; I started crying. I wiped a tear away.

"Well, if you need a place to crash for a while," Peter began.

"No." Sam cut in. "She can't stay. We're already full as it is."

"Oh, no. I don't need a place. I was trying to offer one to the rest of you." I smiled, wiping away another tear.

"What?!" Sam, Luke and Ava said.

"Yeah. I have this nice place above my apartment building."

"And it's indoors?" Ava questioned.

"Yeah. It's just kinda hard to get to. If you know what I mean." I winked.

"Actually, I don't." Luke had a poker face.

"Oh, yeah. It's nice. You should come visit." I walked into the school. At least I can make one, I hope, I thought.

I walked up to my apartment building. My main key still worked. I climbed all the stairs to the roof. Plants lined the edge to the roof. I looked up into the clouds. I judged the amount of room I could use. I frowned, seeing the most amount of room was very little. I focused. I motioned my hands and snapped once. A room on slits hovered over the roof. A partial staircase came down. I smiled, ready to materialize some nice furniture. I flew up to the stairs. I climbed the last few and opened the trapdoor leading in. The walls were white, the floor was bare and there was no windows. Pretty basic, I thought. I made the walls still white, but with speckles of greens, blues and yellows. The floor gained a green shag rug. The roof gained a huge hole, which became a sunlight. The living room area had a coffee table and a white sofa and matching chairs. The dining room had a simple oak table with four oak chairs. The kitchen had running water, an electric stove, a microwave and a refrigerator. My bedroom had a simple twin bed with a simple black and white flower spread. The light switches work, I smiled.

A knock was heard from my trapdoor. I opened it to see a man. "Principal Coulson?!" I said as I let him in.

"Hello, Ms. Greene."

"How can I help you?" I said, trying to be formal.

"Well, this is a nice place. When was it built?"

Without thinking, I blurted out, "Today." I smacked my forehead.

"I see. I know you don't know this," he started.

"But you're an agent of SHIELD," I blurted out again. I sank into a chair, covering my face. "Why can't I stop that?"

"Stop what?"

"Finishing other people's sentences. It's so annoying."

"I see. Well, if you need someone to talk to, come find me." He started to leave.

"Wait, how did you find me?"

"Ava," was all he said as he closed the trapdoor behind him.

I flopped on my bed, thinking that this was way better than a homeless shelter.
