Lucy had spent her whole life waiting and she was tired of it. She was tired of listening to her friends talk about how wonderful color was, and tired of watching their faces as they walked down the street, marveling at all of the colors while she was stuck looking at the same shade of gray she had looked at her whole life. Her food was gray, her house was gray, everything was gray. A couple years ago, this didn't matter to her. It was the same way for all her friends, so why should she care? Now, it was almost all she could think about. About how all of her friends had found their soulmates, and how she hadn't.
She sighed as she looked out the window. She had hopped on the nearest train to go see her friends in Magnolia. Most of them worked at a bar there, and they had finally convinced her to come visit them. She wasn't a huge fan of bars, all the ones she had been to were poorly lit, dirty, and the people there were either so intoxicated they couldn't walk, or were just drunk enough to be able to fight each other, albeit very sloppily. So, after a few visits to local bars with a couple friends, she decided they weren't for her. The only reason she had agreed to go to this one was because of how special it was to her friends, and that maybe if she got out and did something, she wouldn't be so miserable.
As the train came to a halt about four hours later, Lucy sat up and stretched, looking out the window. She had thought about bringing her umbrella, and now she wished she had. It was pouring outside. Grimacing and grabbing her bags, she decided to make a run for it.
By the time she had arrived to her hotel, she was thoroughly soaked. She had gotten lost multiple times on the way there, and it had taken fifteen minutes longer than she had hoped. Grabbing a change of clothes, she headed to the small bathroom attached to her hotel room.
After she had gotten changed, she looked up in the mirror, twirling her hair. She wondered what it looked like. Her friend Erza had told her it was blonde, but that word really didn't mean anything to her. She sighed, grabbed her brush, and got to work on her ratty hair. Looking up again, she decided that tonight would be a fun night. She would meet up with old friends and have a drink or two in the clean bar said friends had promised her. She wouldn't think about soulmates, or colors, just have some much need fun.
Once she had finally gotten her hair to behave, deciding to put it in a ponytail rather than wrestle it into some sort of fancy hairstyle, she went and checked her phone. Lisanna had texted her something about a fire show put on by by one of the workers there. She shrugged on her coat and walked over to the window. Thankful that it had stopped raining, and that she wouldn't need to borrow an umbrella from someone, she headed out for the bar.
She heard the footsteps too late. Knocked into the pavement she heard a surprised grunt, and then an excited gasp. Fully prepared to scream at whatever had knocked her over, she looked up and stopped.
All she could do was stare, and he seemed to be doing the same. For a couple minutes, they looked at everything in shock, trying to process what they were seeing. It was color, and it was amazing. She decided immediately that her favorite was whatever you could call his hair. She stared at him for a couple minutes, his eyes wide, staring back into hers.
Blinking rapidly, the man finally found his voice. He stuck out his hand, his face lit up with a childish grin.
"I'm Natsu, and I think I'm your soulmate."
