She Is the Sunlight
Pitch can't bring himself to care if the Guardians know about her. If they do, well they haven't done anything, right? If anything, the Nightmare king is already stripped of a good portion of his power. He doubts they'll try anything with her.
They don't talk much; just bask in each other's presence. It's a silent comfort, having her near. Without her, he'd be completely alone.
Flare spends most of her time in her little forest, sitting on the big boulder overhanging the river or napping on the tree that took her life. She's content with playing games with figures of fire to play with or reading a book in the comfortable quietness of the forest. She doesn't mind him there, staying underneath the tree's branches. It's always September here, when the tree's leaves turn into shades of yellow and red and brown, but it is still plenty warm enough to be without a jacket.
He's seen what happens when a Guardian (besides Tooth that is) enters her forest. The leaves turn to fire and she shifts into a lioness with a mane of fire and glowing eyes of flame. It's sends a quite clear message-leave.
He supposes that she prefers being alone because of her temper. With a wave of a hand she can start wildfires that destroy entire forests, and kill thousands. But she rarely does this. If Flare was a Guardian, her center would be balance. She causes a small fire or two, sometimes big ones. As she had said once many years ago-
"So what if a few rabbits and deer and wolves die? It's all part of nature. Too much of one thing can be very bad. For example, say that the rabbit population booms. The rabbits will each most, if not all, of the grass. Because of this, the deer population suffers. Without the deer, the wolves will have to hunt more rabbits, meaning the grass have the chance to grow back the next year. But let's say that more wolves are born. The wolves will each most of the deer population, then the rabbits. The forest will over grow, but soon the food will run out, and the wolves suffer in the end. But say that a forest fire happens half way through the year. The number of wolves will lessen, giving the deer and rabbits to produce the next population. And don't get me started on the ash. The ash from all the burnt stuff over time becomes a great soil, and the forest regrows from there."
And if they don't understand her, then Pitch doesn't care. It's his job to keep her from destroying herself.
It's his job as her father to keep her safe and he once failed. He has to protect her now, only now she does the same for him.
He's still not sure how to feel about that.
And if all the flowers faded away
And if all the storm clouds decided to stay
Then you would find me
Each hour the same
Cause she is tomorrow
And I am today
Cause if right is leaving
I'd rather be wrong
Cause she is the sunlight
The sun is gone
And if loving her is
Is heartache for me
And if holding her means
That I have to bleed
Then I am the martyr
Love is to blame
Cause she is the healing
And I am the pain
She lives in a daydream
(She lives in a daydream)
Where I don't belong
Cause she is the sunlight
And the sun is gone
And it will take this life of regret
For my heart to learn to forget
Tomorrow will be as it always has been
And I will fall to her again
For I know I have come too close
Cause if right is leaving
I'd rather be wrong
Cause she is the sunlight
And the sun is gone
She is the sunlight
And the sun is gone
