Rizzoli & Isles:

Prelude 1

"Time"

A/N: Like I said in my summery, this story is going to cover 3 different time periods in Jane and Maura's lives; Before/After their birth, their teens, and their adulthood.

And of course Jane is intersex in this story, (This is NOT a G peen story!) Jane's condition is a real one. I have done the research into intersexuality. This story is also written in semi-script format. So on with the story.

FRANCESCO "FRANK" RIZZOLI and ANGELA RIZZOLI have been married for just under a year; when Angela found out she was pregnant for the first time. Both Frank and Angela are about 2 years apart from each other; Frank is a 21-year-old Italian-American, who's an aspiring second-generation plumber, learning all he can from his father. Angela is 19-year-old Italian-American housewife, who just wants to create a loving home and family with her husband.

Card: "Boston, 1975"

Both Angela and Frank live in a small, one bedroom duplex apartment in south Boston. It's about 4:30 pm, and Angela is nervously pacing back and forth in her living room, she could feel her heart beating faster and faster as she watches the clock tick away.

Angela knows that Frank's workday typically ends at around 4:30, but she can't help feeling her nerves and excitement get the best of her. She hopes that, out of all the days to be home late, this is not one of them.

The clock on the wall now says 6:14. Angela is sitting on a lounge chair in the living room getting angrier by the minute. Angela hears Franks voice outside shouting to someone.

FRANK: (O.S.) "YEAH, I'LL SEE YOU TOMORROW. THANKS, JERRY!"

Angela stands up from her chair, and straightens her cloths out, as she just waits there patiently as she can for Frank to enter the front door.

Frank enters, wearing his dirty overalls, carrying in his lunch pail and a newspaper. Frank puts down his lunch pail on the floor next to the door, and places the newspaper next to it as Angela confronts him.

ANGELA: (Angry) "Where the hell were you?"

Frank doesn't flinch.

FRANK: (Calmly) "Relax; I was out with the guys."

Frank just walks past Angela towards the kitchen, opening the refrigerator, and getting himself a beer to drink.

FRANK: "The guys wanted to go out and celebrate. We finished the job early today. A full re-piping job in three days." [Excited] "Three days! Everybody thought that it was going to be impossible, but we did it!"

Frank takes a huge chug out of his beer, while Angela approaches him in the kitchen.

ANGELA: (Calmly) "Oh. I still wished you had called. I waited and waited, for you to come home. I needed to talk to you."

FRANK: "I'm sorry, I just wanted to go out and celebrate. I mean, I just can't believe we actually did it. Three days."

Frank smiles proudly, as he starts to finish off his drink. Meanwhile, Angela is starting to get more irritated with him.

ANGELA: "Well, what about last night?"

FRANK: (Taken aback) "What are you talking about?"

ANGELA: "It seems like that's all you do now, is go out drinking with 'the guys.' I mean, you come home later and later, or you don't come home at all—"

Frank cuts Angela off.

FRANK: (Defensive) "That was one time Angela. And I don't go out all the time."

ANGELA: "For the past week you have. I swear ever since you turned 21, that all you've done. Then you come home at 1 or 2 in the morning, smelling like booze and cigarettes."

Frank's unsure of where to go from here. All he knows is that he is too tired to continue arguing.

FRANK: "Look, Angela. I'm sorry. I'm not going to go out partying like that again. I should have called you, you're right. We should have celebrated together."

Frank approaches Angela and places his arm around her, both slowly pacing back into the living room.

FRANK: "In fact, how about we do it this weekend? We'll go out, just the two of us, and celebrate together. And we'll drink the night away. Huh?"

Angela lets out a huge chuckle, as she and Frank sit down on the couch together.

ANGELA: "Frank. I can't drink."

FRANK: "Oh yeah that's right. I forgot you're not old enough." [Laughs] "That's okay. We can drink here."

Angela shakes her head in amusement.

ANGELA: "No, it's not only that."

Angela snuggles in closely towards Frank, and places her head on his chest, playing with his collar.

ANGELA: (Whispers) "I'm pregnant."

Frank's not entirely sure if he heard her right. He gently placed his finger under Angela's chin.

FRANK: "You're pregnant?"

Angela smiled and nodded her head.

ANGELA: (Lovingly) "I found out today. That's why I wanted you home, so I could tell you."

Frank smiled excitedly, as if he just won the biggest lottery ever drawn.

FRANK: "Oh, Ang…"

He showered Angela with so much love, by placing kisses all over her face, and hugging her tightly.

Angela was overwhelmed by the affection, but couldn't help admire it as well.

ANGELA: (Playfully) "I can't breathe, Frank."

Frank couldn't hold in his excitement anymore, and that's when he got up, and ran towards the phone, on the kitchen counter to make a call.

ANGELA: "Who are you calling?"

FRANK: "Everyone! My parents, your parents. The guys at work. Everybody on the block...Everyone!"

ANGELA: "Frank, we can't possibly tell everyone! Besides, my parents already know."

Frank hangs up the phone. And looks towards Angela.

FRANK: (Hurt) "How do they know already?"

ANGELA: "Well, somebody had to drive me to the clinic today, since you weren't here."

Frank's disappointment in knowing that he was not the first to know, about the pregnancy soon faded. But Frank soon realizes, what a huge responsibility having a child is going to bring to the young couple.

FRANK: (Freaking out) "Oh, right. I'm going to have to teach you how to drive. And get you a new car. I'm going to have to get health insurance for the baby, and money's kind of tight right now..."

Frank continues rambling on, and Angela gets off the couch, and walks over to Frank to calm him down.

ANGELA: (Comforts Frank) "Sweetie, it's going to be okay."

Frank continues freaking out.

FRANK: "We're going to have to get a bigger place to live. We may have to move to a better neighborhood." [To Angela] "How are we going to do all this?"

Frank starts pacing around the living room, trying to figure it out in his head. Angela places her hands around him to get him to listen to her.

ANGELA: "Honey. Don't worry. My parents said that they will help us."

FRANK: "They did?" [Angela nods] "Okay, but I still think I should get you a car. Just in case anything happens, while I'm at work."

ANGELA: (Smiles) "Alright, fine Frank. If it'll make you feel better."

The next few weeks have been hectic for the young couple. Frank's trying to work as much as he can, even taking two jobs at once. Which has him sometimes working well into the night. Which Angela didn't mind, since she knew he was actually spending that time working, instead of out drinking with his buddies.

Frank took on jobs fixing toilet issues around Boston with his dad, he hated doing those jobs, cause they really didn't make much money, for some small clog problems that they would normally encounter. But since it was July 5th, he knew that there would be enough plumbing calls, to keep him busy all day long.

With Angela being close to 4 months along, Frank couldn't help but be excited about the baby. Even though, neither Frank nor Angela knew what the sex of the baby was, Frank would still refer to it as a boy. He would constantly tell the guys about how he couldn't wait to toss the ball around with "Frank Jr.," and how he had plans of expanding Rizzoli & Sons with his own son.

Both Frank and his dad made it back to the small office they worked out of. When their receptionist greets them.

FRANK'S DAD: (To the receptionist) "Did we get anymore calls?"

Both Frank and his dad walk up towards the front counter.

RECEPTIONIST: "Just one. For Frank." [Hands Frank a piece of paper] "You're mother-in-law called, Angela's in the hospital."

FRANK: "WHAT!? What happened?"

RECEPTIONIST: "She didn't say, that's the number to her hospital room."

Frank runs around the counter towards the nearest phone, and quickly dials the number.

Angela picks up.

FRANK: (Frantic) "Angela? Angela, what happened? Are you okay?"

Angela has a hard time responding; she's been crying hysterically, she tries to put as much strength into her voice to speak.

ANGELA: (Through Sobs) "He...He's gone."

Angela begins to cry uncontrollably.

Frank tries to keep his composure.

FRANK: "Who's he? Who's gone?"

ANGELA: "Frank Junior..." [Cries loudly] "He's gone Frank!"

Frank has a stunned look on his face, as he drops the phone from his hand. His eyes are glassed over with tears, as he's just realized that all the dreams he's ever had of having Frank Jr., are now gone.
