How I Met Your Mother
Previously... Barney did not win his daughter, Ellie, in a custody trial against Number 31, also known as Sara.
"Oh Barney." Robin patted his right thigh. She sat the closest to him.
You see, since Barney did not grow up with a father. He knows what she could become, and he doesn't want that.
Barney's tears rolled down his face. He spoke in short, sob-like sounds that barely got through the tears.
"Later, the only message I got about Ellie, was 3 years ago, was that she was in a car accident. They wouldn't even let me in the hospital room. The only time she ever saw me in her life, was at the hospital when she was born, but she doesn't remember that. The only other time was when I was at court. Now she's been in a coma for three years. Her aunt wants to just pull the plug and let her die."
"Barney, do you think you could use a disguise from one of your ingenious playbooks to see her? I saw it on Red Band Society." Lily suggested, but the only thing Barney could hear was his tears. The empty hole from no father, that only Ellie could fill. But how in the world would she? If she only came back to the real world.
"Yeah," Robin said. "You could dress up like, uh, like a volunteer person from the church volunteer thingy, then you play the stringy thing." Robin only talked like this when she forgot stuff. She didn't want help figuring it out, and she didn't want to not help, so, she just struggled with it in hope that someone would understand her and explain.
Lily helped. "What Robin means is, you dress up completely different, and say that you are a volunteer from a group of scientists to sing to her, then you tell them that the scientists believe that people in commas can hear everything, feel when people touch them, but still can't respond, and that you believe if you sing to her, she'll come out of her coma."
Barney continued sobbing through his words... either that or he was talking through rivers of tears. "Guys. Don't you think I've tried everything? I don't know how much longer I can take this."
Ted started to talk, but was interrupted by a cell phone ringing.
Barney quit crying as soon as he saw the Caller ID. "Hello?" Barney walked off.
"So who do you think that is?" Marshall asked.
"I don't know, but it must be important."
Barney walked back into the room, with crazy eyes, and a full smile. "That was the hospital. Ellie's aunt just died. But when the staff told her, she came out of her coma. She's mine!"
