UNDER THE STARS
The sky had darkened and the stars and moon were the only sources of light, but still they saw each other more clearly than ever.
"Eli?"
"Clare."
"Do you…"
"Yes?"
"Do you believe in love?" Clare felt her ears warm up.
"That depends… Do I believe in you?"
Such an Eli thing to say. "Is that a trick question?"
"Humor me," she could practically hear his smirk.
"Um… Yes?"
"Then, yes, I believe in love."
Clare was silent for a short, beautiful moment. She rolled on her side and said, "Wow… I'm glad I hung in there." They looked into each other's eyes, and then shared a moment of laughter.
"I love you, Clare Edwards."
"I love you, Elijah Goldsworthy."
"I love you more, Clare Edwards."
"I'm not getting into this with you, Goldsworthy." She let out a short laugh.
"Fine, fine. But I win."
She didn't give him the liberty of a response. He pushed a stray curl behind her ear. "God, I can't get over how beautiful how you are."
Her cheeks blushed, and she decided this was a bad time to scold him for using the Lords name in vain. Apparently, he face showed it.
He laughed, "Sorry, 'gosh.'"
They laid there for a moment, blue eyes met green, and no sound cold be heard but the sound of two hearts beating. And soon, the sounds melted into one.
"Clare, I have something to show you." He reached into the pocket of his jeans and pulled out a small velvet bag. "I've been thinking, that ring on your finger is beginning to get old…"
Not this. Not now. "Eli, you said you didn't have a problem with waiting."
His foresty eyes filled with hurt and his face was stained with a hint of amusement. "That's not what this is about. I got you a new one." He dumped a ring into his palm and slid it onto her finger gingerly.
"Eli, it's beautiful," she said breathlessly.
"That's not all," he smirked and pulled out another ring and slipped it on his own hand. "I'll wait with you."
Clare's heart filled with a sense of unbearable happiness. "Eli, I've never felt closer to you then I do right now."
"Don't give up on me, Edwards, there's still time," he smirked, and Clare's heart fluttered like a midnight firefly.
Then he leaned over and planted a soft, sweet kiss on her lips.
1… 2… 3…
He pulled away and cupped her face in his hand. "I'm sorry; I'm just so lost in those eyes." He stroked her cheek and lay on his back.
"Oh, and Eli?"
"Yes, love?" Somehow that sounded so perfect coming out of his mouth.
"I love you more."
End! Ok this was my first fan fiction so sorry it kinda sucked! Just give me some practice time and I'll get better I promise! Reviews, my lovelys!
