Over The Falls

The kids could only silently look at the waterfall before them, none of them daring to believe what had just happened. Phoebe limply held a familiar pink ribbon in her shaking hand. Some of the class could still hear the screaming in their heads, but in reality it had been lost to the roar of the falls moments ago.

"I'm sorry." Lily whispered to the girl who was no longer there, her eyes wide in shock and her shoulders shaking wildly. "I'm sorry. I-I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

They had been on the run from the river pirates before. There had been no time to find a safer place to cross the river, Lila still couldn't swim and perhaps in light of the praise she received from the Green Eyed people, Helga had become a bit of a showoff, jumping at chances to display the ferocity that they found so impressive. So she had stayed behind to do whatever she could against the pirates while Lila found an easier way to cross. Lila had managed to find a patch of still shallow water and met up with the others safety, with Helga still on the other bank. The first of the pirates found them at that moment and plunged into the river after her. True to herself, Helga had taunted the pirate and lured him downstream to a stronger current. She was known to be one of the stronger swimmers in their year, surly she could fight a stronger current if need be.

This plan had worked at first, however tiring it was. Before the pirate had retreated, he'd thrown his knife at her, and it had disappeared under the water. She'd given him a taunting look for the instant before she'd felt a fiery pain in her leg. With an injured leg, Helga couldn't keep up with the current and it had swept her away. She'd tried with all her strength the get to the far bank the class was chasing her from, but it was all for not. She'd only gotten close enough for someone to weakly grab at her hair, her hair ribbon coming undone in their hand, but the water swept her back away. Their had been screaming of her name, with Phoebe, Arnold, Olga and Lila being the loudest. Helga had let out a scream as she went over the falls which, once again, had been lost to the roaring of the water.

A couple of miles away, Helga was half-conscious, having found a large enough piece of driftwood to weakly cling to. She vaguely registered that the water had calmed down, the sound of the falls fading in her ears. Things were so calm, the sharp lurch of the wood washing ashore on a bank was startling. Alright, this was a start. Helga forced herself up on shaky arms and opened her mouth, meaning to call for help. Instead, her arms gave out and she vomited up a large puddle of water before breaking into a coughing fit.

A voice. She could hear a voice. It sounded like a woman, not anyone she knew. Her vision was too blurry to focus in on anything, but her hearing was clearing up so she could make out a few words. "What the?...Miles, you'd better come and see this...It's okay, sweetie, we'll fix you up...What in the world happened to that leg?"

Well, there goes my Gravity Falls streak. Thanks, plot bunny. Anyway, this is just a little scene I could see happening in the movie. Also, I heard about the TV movie. So...did we win? Review.
