All she ever Wanted was an Unattainable Imaginary Shockingly Bad Ass John Druitt
'It's not much to ask, or is it, to have John back as he once was?'
Helen wondered this question often and with great distain. Lately she had taken to listening to the newest music. An uncharacteristic thing for her to do, yes; but non-the-less she found she wanted to know what all the fuss was about seeing as almost no one listened to Gershwin or The Beatles anymore. At least no one she knew off hand.
Will, Kate, and Henry all listened to the newest most popular music out there. So, she had subtlety borrowed with no intention of giving back all their CD's. If they asked where they were she would simply say an abnormal was on the loose and ate all of them. The Nubbins did enjoy their metals.
She had locked herself in her office, internally moaning at the horrible hard rock Henry and Will listened to. Helen decided to stop her misery and switch to Kate's music. She found herself surprised. Between Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson she was really enjoying Kate's music selection.
Drinking wine and pretending to do paperwork was never on her agenda. Today though John had stopped by and tried to persuade her to talk about Normandy and James. Fishing for information is what Henry would have called what John was doing. It had left an empty feeling in her heart best described by this song which she had enacted to the best of her ability in the earliest hour of the morning.
Tear up the photographs, but yesterday won't let go This second chancin's really getting me down All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted I'd rather walk alone, don't wanna chase you around Your new beginning was a perfect ending All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted Tell me with so many out there why I always turn to you? All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted
Every day, every day, every minute
Here comes the emptiness, just can't be lonely you know
Every day, every day, hey, hey
You give and takin' everything I dreamed about
It's time you let me know, let me know, just let go
Was a simple way to get over you
All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted
Was an in between to escape this desperate scene
Where every law reveals the truth
Baby 'cause I all ever wanted, all I ever wanted was you
Every day, every day, every minute
I fall a thousand times for I let you drag me down
Every day, every day, hey, hey
But I keep feeling we've already been here before
It's time you let me know, let me know, just let go
Was a simple way to get over you
All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted
Was an in between to escape this desperate scene
Where every law reveals the truth
Baby 'cause I all ever wanted, all I ever wanted was
Your goodbyes tear me down every time
And it's so easy to see that the blame is on me
Was a simple way to get over you
All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted
Was an in between to escape this desperate scene
Was a simple way to get over you
All I ever wanted, all I ever wanted
Was an in between to escape this desperate scene
Where every law reveals the truth
Baby 'cause I all ever wanted, all I ever wanted was you
She had to admit she had always wanted John. Not any other man, not even James, though she did love him dearly. And though she had initially kicked him out of her office for even mentioning one syllable of the word Normandy, he hadn't dared come back.
Helen had to convince herself that she wanted him back in all his glory. He was, as Henry used often, kick ass when they were younger; always willing to put up a fight.
And she loved him, more than anything. She just wished he would stop running away and stay for once and be the brave man she fell in love with. It wasn't much to ask, was it?
