Her body was frozen. But she was still there.
Her eyes fixed on the tall tree where she leaned on. She wanted to move. She still wanted to fight. She wanted to scream and stop Auruo and Eren and draw her blades and cut that Female Titan into pieces.
But her body remained frozen. And she knew, this is where it ends…
"What are angels?" The innocent little girl asked. Her mother had always been good at sewing. She would make Petra dresses and dolls, and her brother used to have a small coat with a replica of the Recon Corp's symbol on the back for play before he was issued his own. Her mother loved to make things. And now she was making a doll with wings. "Angels are people with wings, love." Her mother said. "Like the Recon Corps?" She laughed. Petra misses that laugh until this day. "No. Real wings, Petra. Like a bird's!" "I've never seen one…" "That's because they are invisible. But they are everywhere." Her mother explained. "Angels are our guardians. They're always with us and protect us when bad things happen. And when the time comes, we will finally see our angel, and they will take us to a wonderful place. The same place where your grandma is." Little Petra studied the doll carefully. It was hard for her to imagine an angel. A person with wings like a bird. "They should fight titans with brother." She said. "They won't need the gear if they already have wings." "Who says they aren't fighting with him?" Her mother asked her.
Sunlight peeked out between the leaves when the wind blew them. It was quiet now. She didn't know if she had just lost her hearing or not. And she doesn't feel pain anymore. But her unmoving eyes could still see.
And in the corner of eyes, she saw something.
Her vision was blurry, but she could still make out the figure. He floated above her, as if watching her. The figure didn't move at all, he just stood in mid-air. Waiting.
Petra Ral didn't truly believe in angels. Especially when her mother died, and then when she joined the military. She didn't sense any invisible winged people fighting with them. Soldiers fight on their own, and die on their own.
But now, her mother's story of them echoed to her…
"…And when the time comes, we will finally see our angel, and they will take us to a wonderful place."
She felt herself slipping away. She had been prepared for death since the day she joined the Recon Corps. And she wasn't afraid now.
But she kept her focus on that figure, still watching her from above. And she wanted to ask him, but her words would never leave her lips.
Are you my angel?
A/N:
Second fanfic for this story, and for this ship I guess. Also first posted in my RP blog on Tumblr where I play Petra.
