Disclaimer: I do not own Team Fortress 2

They had lost, and like all of his team he knew the score, when you fail the respawn system is turned off, he could do nothing but run, run and hide, trembling and hoping upon hope that they wouldn't find him.

The rest of his team was gone, Heavy had been gunned down trying to protect Medic, he'd always known they were close, suspected something was going on between them, not that it mattered any long. Nor did his sacrifice, Medic had been riddled with bullets moments later.

Engineer had fled, caught trying to climb the fence around the battlefield, it was a valiant effort, but the enemy's Sniper had caught him, left him hanging there in the wind.

Soldier hadn't been able to accept the loss, charging at his enemies, trying to kill them with his bare hands, he didn't stand a chance, but it was a brave gesture...

Demoman had been inside their base when our loss had been declared, trapped inside and surrounded by Sentries, he had taken one last drink, to try and drive away his fear as his killers closed in around him.

Sniper had accepted what was coming, telling him to run, and telling him, if he escaped, to tell his mom and his dad he loved them both. Scout knew Sniper had always been burdened, knowing that his parents didn't accept him or who he was. He had stepped out into the centre of the battlefield, looking into the sky one last time, smiling and opening his arms as the Soldier's missiles flew towards him

Pyro had fallen, Scout knew little of him, or of her, and had no idea how the insane person had felt, watching it slowly turn from the battlefield, walking into the base as Scout fled past, the young Bostonian able to feel the heat from the explosions that turned Pyro into naught but bloody chunks.

Spy had gone, turned invisible, likely he was hiding too, if he had any sense...

Scout gasped as he heard footsteps, trying to keep as still as possible, to not make a sound, if he did...

Looking up slowly as the footsteps came to a stop he saw the Barrel of the Red Spy's gun, pointed directly at him, looking up into the cold eyes of the Frenchman, accepting that this was the end.

Confusion filled his mind as the Barrel of the gun was pulled away, the Spy's expression cracking as tears sprang to his eyes

"I cannot do it" he whispered as he slowly reached into his pocket, throwing his spare Disguise Kit to the Scout. "Go, run" he whispered, smoke covering his form for a second before appearing as Scout's identical double. Scout looking on in utter bewilderment.

"What are you waiting for boy? Run!" the Spy ordered as footsteps began to approach, the Scout's form shifting into that of Red Spy before turning to flee, being stopped by the Frenchman's hand on his arm.

"When you get out, tell your mother... tell her Gabriel shall miss her" he murmured before slowly sitting down, smiling as Scout nodded before darting away. "Run fast boy, war is no place for my child"

Scout had barely made it down the hall before hearing loud gunshots and a cry of agony in a Bostonian accent, mind running, why had the enemy Spy saved him?

He guessed he would likely never know...
