Understanding:

The sky was rather gray as he left his home, strong gusts of wind ruffling through his purple jacket.

He kept his head lowered, hands in his pocket as he appeared to be lost in thought.

Every once in a while he just needed to be alone.

No one could possibly understand the pain he was in, certainly not his strict over-bearing grandfather, and the last thing he wanted to hear was about how he needed to train.

So even when it started to rain he continued to walk, feeling that home wouldn't bring him any more comfort.

Eventually he stopped at a drooping tree and sat underneath it, head in his lap.

For a moment his mothers gentle smile crossed his mind and that's when he lost it, tears streamed down his face as his shoulders began to convulse.

It wasn't fair. Why did it have to be her in the hospital? Why his mom, must fate be so cruel? What had he done to deserve this?

Questions swarmed his brain, leaving him feeling all the more scared and distraught.

"Shun!" A voice cried out, shaking him from his thoughts.

He looked up to see Dan crouching down, a grey umbrella in his hand.

"Are you okay?" Dan whispered, umber eyes staring at him with concern.

"I'm fine." Shun declared darkly, silently praying that he didn't see the tears clinging to his paled face.

The last thing he needed was for Dan to be worried about him. He could take care of himself, he was use to it by now.

His answer didn't seem to satisfy Dan however, who took a seat next to him, placing the umbrella over Shun's head.

"Your going to get wet." Shun scowled, pushing the umbrella back towards him.

"So are you." Dan laughed lightly, trying to cheer up his friend as he placed it off to the side.

"I don't need your pity!" Shun knew he was yelling but didn't care. He was far too upset, losing his usual calm demeanor.

"I just want to help." Dan murmured, eyes lowered to the floor before turning to face him, "Maybe I can't understand your pain, but I'd like to try..."

His words sliced through him life a knife as he was unable to comprehend why he was trying so hard to make him feel better.

"Why do you care so much?" He whimpered, tears streaking down his face.

Dan barely bat an eye lash as he responded, "Because I hate seeing you suffer, I love you." Just as the words left his mouth he gently pressed his lips against Shun's and caressed him in a kiss.

Shun left his eyes open for a moment, caught off guard, but instantly he felt some of his worries melt away and embraced in it.

The rain stopped and both now laid down in the grass, watching a few stray drops glinting in the sunlight fall to the floor.

He felt a small smirk cross his lips as Dan interlaced his hand with his. He always knew how to make Shun feel better.
