Mystery of Sinnoh - Resting Deeply
The Sinnoh region… a place where a trainer's dream can come true in the blink of an eye. With pokemon taking to the sky and swimming deep in the oceans, the Sinnoh region has become a very large attraction for new researchers and pokemon trainers alike. Here, we will find a group of young teenagers who are embarking on a journey that will likely take them far and wide across every territory that the Sinnoh region has to offer. Friendships are built and destroyed every day for some people… The question is…
… Will it happen to them?
The sun spilled over the horizon like an overflowing bottle of water, shimmering beautiful red and orange shifted light over the terrain of Sandgem Town. The wild pokemon in the area took off from trees and ponds, showing off life to the surrounding area. Dodrio's called out to their siblings and friends, while Wingull's took to the sky and patrolled the ponds and coast to the south of the small town. Bidoof's crawled out from behind fallen over trees in the forest and Shinx and older Luxio also came out to experience the dawn of a brand new day.
Various people located inside Sandgem Town were already up and around at this time. Some were tending to gardens and lathering mouth-watering honey onto the barks of trees where fellow Combee's would soon investigate. A Roselia was pondering around a flower garden with two younger Budews, following not far behind. The area was clearly teaming with pokemon and it didn't take a scientist to see that the people cared just as much for the pokemon as they did. It appeared as if the place was a team. It is.
Some people were awake and alive of course, except Mira. The young girl was curled up on her bedroom floor dreading having to wake up. After all, she had stayed up late the night previous out of excitement alone to finally embark on her first adventure - one journey that was tradition to the human race. Every child at the age of ten is encouraged to go experience the beautiful world of pokemon out on their own to make new friends and learn new things about themselves and their pokemon as well.
Laying beside Mira on its spine, wide open, was a book. The cover read, "Everything you need to know about your first adventure," and was signed by Professor Rowan himself. It wasn't apparent if the famous Sinnoh professor had indeed wrote the book or not but he had at least inspected it. The page was open to page number six, where three pokemon were drawn perfectly and labeled precisely. On the far left was a Turtwig, a grass pokemon that all beginning trainers get to choose out of three. On the top of its head was a twig like object with a small seedling growing out on the sides of the summit of the twig. On the back of the grass pokemon was half of a seed - almost like a shell of a seed plastered to the back of said pokemon. It looked very happy in the book and its evolutions were nothing short of powerful looking. In the middle was the fire starter of Sinnoh, a Chimchar. Balancing on the top of said monkey's head was a smoke like shape which was actually fur. However, the fire on the back end of Chimchar was the main attraction as was the evolutions that would follow this pokemon. Finally, on the right, was a Piplup. Standing on two feet with beautiful blue eyes and a yellow beak, Piplup was the water starter pokemon for the Sinnoh region and often the most chosen pokemon in trends of females that picked the starters. Having a very strong evolution of Prinplup followed by an Empoleon, Piplup was no easy target and was extremely powerful.
Of course, in the world of pokemon there are many more pokemon to choose from but as a gift to trainers who begin their journey as a small child, every professor of every region is tasked with handing them their first pokemon so long as they deserve it.
Still, Mira rubbed her eyes softly with dread as the sun crept through the closed curtains in the bedroom she was resting in prior to the blinding light pouring in like a wildfire. If she didn't get up soon then her father would likely send their Ratatta up to do it for her and getting nibbled while trying to sleep didn't sound like a great idea. So, Mira scoffed and stood up from her resting position on the ground. In her wake was a sleeping bag, a dark red one to be exact, that was oddly flipped and distorted due to her tossing and turning in her sleep. Even the pillow that she places at the head of the sleeping bag was some two feet away from the actual position it was used for. Mira was a heavy sleeper to say the least. Finally, she stepped on her tiptoes dramatically in a stretch, groaning as it came to a close with her soft and high pitched voice. Rubbing her eyes for what felt like the tenth time already, Mira moved to catch a look of herself in the wall mirror she kept in her room. No sooner did she look at the mirror did she wide eye herself dramatically, noticing how wretched her hair appeared. Mira's red hair was all over the place in a tangled mess.
"Oh, boy… My hair is more tangled than a Tangela…" Mira complained as she ran her fingers through her hair with eagerness to settle down the massive explosion of red hair she was facing. Once she begun the attempts to calm her fluffy mess down, there was no way she was going to stop until the goal was achieved. Squinting her eyes in determination, Mira focused tightly on her hair, grooming it down with one hand while attempting to brush out the gnots with her free hand that was holding the brush.
The few seconds that followed were quite despite the ripping and tugging sound of the brush shooting through Mira's hair as she began stressing out over the decreasing sounds of her hair while it still looked like a bomb went off in her scalp. Until, her father stepped into the room.
"Mira! If you sleep anymore you'll be late to get your pokemon from Professor Rowan!" Her father said with eagerness, his voice booming loudly into the quiet room. That's when he noticed that his daughter was no longer in the bed or in the floor yet her material lay spread out across said objects. So, she must have gotten up already. In a quick turn of his head to the right, he spotted his daughter brushing dramatically at her hair over and over again. "Hey! Mira, are you listening to me?"
Finally, Mira tossed down her brush into the open drawer just in front of the mirror and sighed before turning around to face her father. Once his eyes met her messy hair, he bursted out laughing in tremendous humor as a not-so-impressed look fell over Mira. Instead, she crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow.
"Something funny, Dad?" Mira shot back, turning back to the mirror with now anger swimming through her veins. Not only was she exhausted and her hair was an explosion, she was getting mocked by her father who couldn't help but laugh at her goofy hair. "I don't have any more time for this…!" Mira complained once more. She gave her hair a pat twice before snatching her towel off of her dresser and rushing past her dad.
"Hey! Wait, honey-" Her father attempted to intervene on her actions but failed as her small size squeezed through his gap between the wall. He was left watching her step into the bathroom across the hall and close the door to shower. Giving it one more chuckle, her father along with his Ratatta pondered back downstairs to prepare breakfast.
"Thanks, Mom! But I'll be just fine, I promise!"
Twinleaf Town, in the Sinnoh Region… The hometown of Dawn, a ten year old girl who was about to embark on her very own adventure as well. Here, things were a little more lowkey with only ten people living in this small town decorated thoroughly with pokemon of all the types generally found within the first couple of towns in the area. Tall trees lined the outside of Twinleaf Town nearly blocking anybody from the outside from reaching the nicely built town. Only a small passageway about thirty feet wide allows people and pokemon to pass through without any trouble at all. On the other side of the town lies the popular Route 201 where tall grass and ledges decorate the terrain beautifully. Here, Dawn was about to make her first steps to becoming a trainer. After a nice breakfast and morning preparations for her journey, Dawn made way outside with her bike which she would need to reach the next town over - Sandgem Town where Professor Rowan would be waiting to provide the young lady with a starter pokemon.
The sun beamed down with beautiful rays of light that hit every surface that was available. The streets were already warmed up and Sunflora followed by Sunkern and familiar Cherubi and Cherrim were all blossoming out in the sunlight along the tree line. Meanwhile, Dawn got up onto her bike and looked back at her mother who was standing on the end of the front porch to their small house.
"I sure hope you know how to get to Sandgem Town! Don't get too distracted if you want to make it before sunset!" Dawn's Mother exclaimed loudly from the porch, her hands cupped around her lips to boost the volume of her voice. Dawn indeed heard but was already petaling away steadily.
A smile was shot over Dawn's Shoulder back to her mother followed by her famous words she had been saying for years…
"No need to worry, Mom! Bye!"
Of course, Dawn's Mother was used to these words being spoken by her young daughter and replied with a quiet chuckle as the image of Dawn disappeared around the corner of Route 201. Her daughter was adventuring out to grab her first pokemon and from there experience the world for herself. There was a hint of proudness followed by sheer disappointment knowing that she was going to be living alone in the house with her own Glameow without Dawn's company. Something about the whole thing was overwhelming as a mother and so, she began crying happy tears in celebration of her only child growing up to conquer the world. Now, she could only hope that she was doing the right thing by letting her daughter experience the world for herself instead of keeping her inside all of the time. Time could only tell…
Meanwhile, Dawn was petaling away on her bike with fierce energy. The drive to accept her first pokemon from Professor Rowan was much too strong to be dragged behind via slow petaling on her nice bike. Instead, the young woman from Twinleaf Town pushed herself harder and harder. Time wasn't moving fast at all for her, she seemed to be covering a great distance and within the hour she was already halfway through Route 201. Unfortunately, she was exhausted and decided that now would likely be the best time to take a much needed breather.
"I'm so excited to meet my first pokemon…!" Dawn exclaimed with a wide grin as she tipped her head back and looked up at the sky. Up high she could spot some Swablu and Altaria fluttering above several thousand feet. Someday she was going to be ambitious enough to catch those cute pokemon and fill out the pokedex that the professor gives her. First, she would have to make it to Sandgem Town if she wanted a shot at receiving said items. Snatching a water bottle off of the basket of her bike, Dawn began gulping down swallows of water - not catching just how dehydrated she had become over the course of petaling away on her bike. If she was this reckless on her adventure there's no saying how much damage she could do to herself. But, Dawn decided that bridge didn't matter. She would cross it when it came.
Fluttering sounds were heard nearby followed by various screeches of disagreeing. Obviously two or more pokemon were arguing back and forth in the tree line not too far from where she had stopped. Still downing the water from the bottle, Dawn saw out of the corner of her eye two Starly who were trying to land in the same area and began arguing over the property. Unfortunately, Dawn couldn't understand the speech of pokemon and so, she was deemed useless in communicating.
That is, until a loud swooping sound was heard from behind her as another Starly swooped within inches of the skin on her face, before dropping its two feet onto the water bottle and ejecting outwards. Before Dawn could react and snap the water bottle away from the flying pokemon, it was already taking off with the water bottle which was weighing it down noticeably.
"Hey!" Dawn exclaimed, irritated in the fact that her own water was snatched by a pokemon who could easily fly to grab their own water if they wanted it so bad. Clearly, the pokemon wanted her water over anything else even while she needed it much more. "That's my water! Give it back!"
To her dismay, the Starly punctured the plastic lid with a sharp toenail and broke off the top of the bottle and began drinking it, passing it around with the other two birds. Steadily, they all began poking fun at Dawn and shaming her for her frustration and loss. Growing irritated with the sound of the cackling between the aggravating birds, Dawn swooped up a small rock from the ground beneath her and out of instincts alone, threw it as hard as she could. It didn't hit the birds at all but instead knocked the water bottle out of the grip of the original bird who flinched and glared at Dawn. From there, all three birds looked very irritated with the actions of Dawn and only one thought came across their minds…
Revenge.
So, all three Starly's took off from their place on the branches and swooped down to attack Dawn even while she didn't own a single pokemon. The opened their beaks with the intent to harm Dawn which sent her hiding behind her bike. Anticipating the attack getting closer every second, she closed her eyes and let out a squeal…
Before a large fire attack shot through the air at high speeds. The flame warmed up Dawn's skin slightly and lit up the surrounding area, completely missing Dawn but hitting her bike as well as the Starly that were attacking. The offensive attack did its job and sent the Starly's fluttering away in defeat - deciding that battling against the pokemon responsible for the attack wasn't worth it and that fleeing would preserve them the right of survival.
As a couple of toasted feathers shimmered to the ground, Dawn opened her eyes and saw a trainer standing with a Chimchar beside his feet. As the calling out of various Starly echoed throughout the area signifying that the wild pokemon did indeed flee instead of group together to attack again, Dawn rose her eyes to meet those of a trainer who stood before her, with a hand extended to her.
"Are you alright?" The Trainer asked nicely, his voice both calm and collected while also showing seriousness for the person he was talking to. Finally, Dawn shook her head and rose to her feet instead of taking the boys hand. This was mainly due to the fact that she was about to explode on the poor kid for destroying her bike right next to her.
"Am I alright!? Did anyone teach you how to aim your pokemon's attack!? My bike was fine until you two stepped in the way!" Dawn bickered at the boy who flinched and hopped backwards in shock at the sudden volume of the girl he had just saved from several birds coming at her. Feeling like his noble actions were taken advantage of and chewed up, he stomped back in front of her while Chimchar felt sorrow for torching the girls bike instead of hitting the pokemon.
"Excuse me? I just saved your life! You should be somewhat grateful that my wonderful Chimchar jumped in when I told him to!" The boy shot back at Dawn, not wavering for a second as Dawn grew surprised at the response that the kid gave her. Clearly, he was not afraid of her and that needed to change pronto.
"Somewhat grateful of my wonderful bike that was just MELTED!?" Dawn exclaimed, her eyebrows arched in clear anger. It almost seemed like she was about to literally attack this kid and that's when he decided enough was enough.
"Why don't we settle this with a pokemon battle!" The boy snickered, ushering his Chimchar to take his place while he took three steps back.
Dawn gasped as she remembered over this whole disagreement between herself and this random boy - she was supposed to be rushing to her next pokemon and if she is late, she may miss it. But, the guy was waiting for her to answer and each second that went unspoken he grew more and more suspicious. She needed to come up with a lie or just lay out the truth. No, this bully didn't deserve the truth since he eviscerated her own bike.
"No! I don't feel like battling you! Besides, you better be focused on how you're going to replace my bicycle!" Dawn chattered back, her response formed perfectly. Hopefully this would shut down the argument and send herself on her way. Although… now that the bike was destroyed there was no way that she could continue AND outrun this freak. Either running or sending this kid flying would be her only options and since she lacked the body muscle to throw a young boy several miles away, she had to go with the latter of the options.
So, Dawn began legging her way out of the route, completely avoiding the boy behind her as she jogged. Silently bickering her inner thoughts out as she bolted away from him, Dawn ushered herself on so that she could make it to the laboratory before noon. She needed to hurry and make up for lost time between Starly and the rude boy.
The boy, who was completely shocked by how the young lady was acting, threw his arms out to his side in a questioning gesture, unaware as to why this girl picked a fight after he had SAVED her life. Squatting down beside his very own Chimchar, the boy rolled his eyes. It didn't matter what the problem with that lady was, his pokemon gained experience and that's what apparently mattered more than the woman who was saved by his Chimchar.
"Chimmy, you didn't do anything wrong I promise… Some girls are just… dramatic? Dad always told me that." The boy chuckled in response before adjusting his black and red trainer hat in the nice breeze. Chimchar wasn't picking up on the positive side of any of this but followed the mood of his trainer and hopped up onto his shoulders instead of returning to his own pokeball.
Mira finally made it out the door after several lectures from her father in regards to boys and what to do when she was around them. If that wasn't bad enough already, he packed her bags for her even while she offered dozens of times to do it instead. FINALLY she was set to rush over to Professor Rowan's laboratory! With haste, Mira dashed like the wind even while her red pig tailed hair which reached nearly down to her waist even while tied up acted as a whip to the air around her. There wasn't time for stalling whatsoever.
It only took herself five minutes to arrive at Professor Rowan's laboratory when she collided with a boy.
It was a boy with a Chimchar who was now sprawled out across the floor with his Chimchar also standing back up from falling. Feeling incredibly guilty for running into the poor boy, Mira stood up and offered her two hands to him, apologizing up and down as if her life depended on it. "I'm so sorry! I hope you didn't get hurt! Are you hurt?" Was Mira's frantic apologies and cries as the boy struggled to stand up, merely surprised by the fact that this girl was actually being nice instead of attacking him.
"H-Hey! It's just fine… I'm not hurt!" The boy struggled to spit out, waving his two hands defensively as Mira took a deep breath that lingered with mere celebration that she hadn't injured a boy who did nothing to her at all. She took note of the appearance of the boy; his black and red hat followed with his red and black trainer jacket and bright blue backpack. His shoes had a combination of all the colors listed to create a very well styled outfit with his black jeans seizing the deal.
Just as an awkward silence fell through the outside of professor Rowan's laboratory, the door opened and none other than the professor himself stood inside looking out with a curious look.
"Is everything alright out here?" Professor Rowan asked, his grating voice penetrating both ears of Mira and the boy who sweatdropped in response to the rough voice as well as the intimidating height difference and presence of Professor Rowan.
"Huh? U-Uh, everything is fine, Professor Rowan!" The boy blabbered out, his voice so rich of anxiety and fear that he shook. Mira instead bowed before the professor.
"Sorry, Professor Rowan, I didn't mean to keep everyone inside waiting…! I hope you can forgive me, sir!" Mira replied, her voice not sounding in fear but more sincere and wholesome. Instead of lecturing the two of them about anything, Professor Rowan just ushered them back with him. The boy ducked inside last and closed the door right behind himself. From there, they made their way to the very back of the building.
"I believe everyone is here. How did you and Chimchar do today?" Professor Rowan asked politely, turning to face the boy and Mira, the two walking side by side. It appeared as if the professor and the boy to her left knew each other but it was too soon to decide or come to a conclusion to anything just yet. "I hope you two have been working very hard to complete the pokedex I gave you this morning?"
Hearing the voice of Professor Rowan and the footsteps of two people following him before they stopped, Dawn turned around from the pokemon selection table and immediately narrowed her eyes and sighed.
"You've got to be kidding me…" Dawn sighed as she met eyes with the boy who was responsible for burning up her bike. As if the day wasn't going to get any more different, Dawn found herself suddenly wrong as the boy looked away from Dawn and back up to the Professor.
"Yes, Professor. As your assistant, I need to be doing the best I can!" Lucas responded to the professor, looking back at Mira and forward to the table where Dawn was standing. "This young lady is here for a pokemon as well."
"Mira is it?" Professor Rowan asked nicely, folding his two large hands behind his back as he nodded for her to follow his steps towards the wooden table. Standing now beside Dawn, Mira looked over the last two pokeballs that remain. Being as polite as she was, Mira was going to wait until Dawn did so she didn't step on any toes. However she knew what she wanted already. "I want the both of you to choose your pokemon right away!"
Looking back and forth at the pokemon, Dawn and Mira positioned themselves beside the pokemon they would likely want. However, when they looked at each other and shared a polite smile, they both reached out and grabbed a pokeball - concluding that they decided on what pokemon they wanted to use for the rest of their adventure.
Dawn chose…
And Mira chose…
To be continued...
