Note: This was inspired by Daniel Radliffe, who played Harry Potter, "coming out" as having dyspraxia in real life. This is meant to be a "missing scene" in the first book of the series.
Neville Longbottom Comes Out As Disabled
Neville opened the door and walked in - or rather, to be more accurate, he jerked open the door and stumbled bewildered into the room.
"Hello", said Harry, hastily putting his glasses on. He rather disliked wearing them, but it would cause too much talk and suspicion if he were to cure his nearsightedness with magic, considering many of his relatives did not know about magic.
"Hello," said Neville, twisting his hands nervously. "Look, I wanted to talk to you about how I've been doing in Potions."
"Oh, you're miles ahead of me," said Harry, "I didn't even know there was such a thing as magic until this year." He tried to look encouraging, but Neville saw through it easily.
"The thing is," Neville said, "I have dyspraxia."
"What's that - some sort of a curse?"
"No, no - it's a kind of disability. Can't be cured with magic or muggle medicine. It means I have a hard time with coordination, so I do things like spill the potion ingredients, or knock over the entire cauldron - but I'm really trying not to. I don't want to drag Gryffindor down in points, and I want you to know I'm really doing my best. You will tell the other Gryffindors, won't you? I hate to have to repeat myself to everyone."
"Sure. Here, have a lemon drop."
Neville carefully plucked the lemon drop from Harry's hand - and then tossed it up in the air, where it quickly fell to Earth, missing his mouth by at least a foot. He shrugged. "Another one for the books. See you around."
