Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from "Starsky and Hutch." I do occasionally borrow them, but never with fraudulent intent or with an eye to monetary gain.
Hope no one reviews this and says it's my best poem ever, as it has the rhyme scheme and sentiment of a greeting card. But I wanted to post something lighthearted after my last few serious pieces. Please consider this a "thank you" to all my supportive friends in fandom who have taught me the true meaning of "me and thee" over the past few months.
148?
By e-pony
A hundred-plus years
Is an awful long time
To be watchin' your back
And bustin' up crime.
Will my hands still be able
To carry a gun?
Will the Torino's V-8
Still be willin' to run?
Will Huggy be passing us
Tips on the street?
Will you still make me jog
On my unsteady feet?
An' what if the cap'n
Has long since retired
An' we don't like the clown
The department has hired?
Will the candy machine
Still charge me a dime,
Or will it take only quarters
After all o' that time?
An' will you still be drivin'
Those beat-up old cars,
Gripin' 'bout "tomatoes"
Or "parade floats from Mars"?
Will we sweet-talk the ladies
During a night on the town?
Or be able to stand up
After boogyin' down?
The future's uncertain;
There's no way to know
What's gonna happen
In a century or so.
But if a hundred-plus years
Is what you intend,
It's still too short a time
To call you my friend!
