Eric Ethelstan. He was the new kid in 7th year and everyone was crowding to get to know him. The 8th years, who were so few in number that they were meshed into 7th year classes, stood and watched.
Ginny eyed him carefully, he was tall, he was tan and he was most definitely handsome. Something about him though told her not to fall for him, she could not quite put her finger on it. She walked up to Hermione and watched as girls, and boys, swarmed the new Ravenclaw asking how he liked it in England,if he was in a long distance relationship (which he was not) and if he was currently interested in anyone he had seen. It was the first day of school, they could not have expected him to fall for someone so quickly. He hesitated a moment before answering and nodded tightly and shyly. Well aparently he could.
For a week persons speculated on who it could be that caught Eric's eye so quickly. Ginny for one thought that they could find much better things to do with their lives and she suspected that he was more attracted to men than women, if the way he oogled Zabini's arse was any indication (Zabini did have a nice arse though). Perhaps that was who he liked.
In the library one morning a pair of girls approached Eric and began to question him, Ginny and Hermione sighed. Whatever silence was in the library would soon be gone. She noticed Blaise glance at Eric, but then again most anyone would when they noticed chatter suddenly start up in a library. Hermione had been helping him with his Muggle Studies assignment, a subject that had become compulsory due to the war.
"... really? You don't like her?" one of the girls said to Eric.
"Nope." he replied trying to carry on with his reading.
"I really thought you liked the caramels."
"Well, sorry to disappoint you but I prefer chocolate." he said with a smile that made Ginny's heart skip a beat. She heard Hermione beside her going Oh my in a tone that would make Ron furious.
"More specifically. He likes dark chocolate. Now I'm sorry ladies but this is a library. So if you'd be so kind as to stop talking" Blaise piped in as he winked at Eric.
Ginny found out why she did not want to fall for Eric. The bloke was bloody gay.
